Question Anybody else have trouble getting the 1st generation windows down?

I haven't taken them apart yet, but is there a reason why they get so sticky?
Both of them, it's weird.

I guess it would help to mention that they are manual.

Rollers eventually wear.. Replace with JDM ones from ebay.

Mine roll down, it's getting them back up that is the problem. Tried searching for 'JDM' and come up with to many results. 'JDM Window' or 'JDM Toyota' don't seem to help on Ebay either. Be more specific dude! lol. What is the name of the part?

There is no difference between JDM and USDM regulators on eBay the latter people will pay more money for because they are ignorant.

BTW a majority window regulators on eBay are aftermarket Taiwan anyways

JDM= Japan Domestic Market

USDM= United States Domestic Market

we talking passenger doors or the rear tailgate?

Lube the regulator channels.

The rear tailgate - the gear starts to strip...

It's not the regulators, it's the trim that's worn out. The felt wears away and just leaves smooth rubber which grips the glass and t6hen cocks the window to an angle. The only good solution is to replace the whole window trim/guide, which is a pain and not that cheap. A dry lube like graphite is a decent temporary fix but only seems to last about a week or half a dozen roll-downs.

One more thing, the colder or wetter it is the harder it is to get down. On a hot day they go up and down easy.

Toyota Window Sticks

I have the same problem with my 4Runner... when it's rainy or really humid (I live in Florida) they stick and don't want to go easily. Now the rubber seal has been pulled away from the door frame and it comes down and up with it every time. What a nightmare. I'm going to try that silicone stuff and I suggest the same. If you already tried it, let me know what you came up with.

Just a possibility, but have you ever replaced the windows? There are like 3 models of first gen windows. If you get the wrong one, it WILL NOT go up and down easily.

I'm assuming this isn't the case. But, just in case, or for others with issues, it might be useful.

It's just the rubber in the side tracks/guides that are sticking to the window, just lube it up or replace it, but remember, it goes all the way down in the door so be sure to spray that part too (take off door panel). I've done this, my problem is I didn't do it soon enough and my P/S window isn't "clamped-in" on the bottom anymore so I have to push it down when I crank or it will just stay up and fall out of position. Kinda rambly, but I hope this helps...

I had that problem with my first gen (80 4x4) and my problem turned out to be that the bolt holding the regulator down was loose. Tightened it up and it started rolling down the way it should. It was also easier to roll up so the symptoms aren't too far off.

Nope.

There are three different wing window types. My driver side window was smashed out when my stereo was stolen, so I went down to the junk yard, and picked up a new one. It wouldn't go up or down without a fight, even with liberal silicone spray. Ended up trashing my regulator. Finally took it to a guy I know at the stealership, where I was informed of this difference. They have different part numbers, and the guys there refer to them as clear, gray, and gold, for the tints they originally came from the factory with. I needed a gray, I had a gold. Put the new window in, and it went up and down as smooth as a baby's bottom.
