Hi, I am trying to make an adapter for putting a G52 behind a 3VZE using an R150F bellhousing.

I am just wondering if anyone has tried this or there is an adapter already floating around out there for this. I have searched and have come up emptyhanded.

The reason I am not using the 4cyl tcase to R150f adapter from Advance is because the tcase I have is a forward shift and I don't think the forward shift tcase will work with the advance adapter.

Any ideas?

Just go get a top shift t-case...their CHEAP. I think I saw an add in the classifield here listing t-cases for $75/ea

There are bellhousings to go from a 22R motor to a R-series tranny, but I've never heard of going the other way...or why you would want to. The R-series is a better tranny.

To actually mount the G-seires behind a 3VZE, you'd probably have to butcher the bellhousings: ie cutt the two in half, and weld them back together. I've heard of guys doing this for supra swaps, so it does work.

 

That has got be the worst of both worlds.

 

probably just going to leave the r150f alone and use the vf1a tcase i have...might eventually just go with a divorced 4cyl tcase behind the vf1a...we'll see.

You're doing things backwards if you do this. I know the 3.slow is not exactly a powehouse engine, but the G52 is a weaker tranny, I don't think it will last long.

You know you can easily convert a forward shift case to a top shift?

Why would you want to(or even consider) using a divorced tranny? I'm not even use that's possible using toyota T-cases.

You can get adapters from Marlin/AA/Inchworm to bolt a 4-cyl gear driven t-case to an R-series tranny. That would let you run a crawler box in future too.

 

uhhh...i think you ought to reread my post. it is comletely possible to run a divorced TRANSFER CASE, not tranny, with toyota parts. I have considered it so that i could possibly gain some ground clearance and have more selctability as far as tcases are concerned. yes i know there are crawler box options but they are all EXTREMELY costly. 300+ for an adapter , 400+ for gears and then 300+ for the housing, no thanks...

I was just looking to see if there were any other options...

I appologise for my inability to spell. it should read "I'm not even sure that's possible using a toyota t-case"...I'm not sure why I typed tranny.

but the point stands, if you want to run dual t-cases, I'm pretty sure you're "stuck" running a crawler box.

To run a divorced t-case the biggest issue you're going to run into is the output sode on the front case. Unless you butcher the hell out of your stock V6 case, you're still going to have a flange to mount a front drive shaft hanging off the passenger side. You would have to mount the divorced case significantly lower(or further back) to have the front drive shaft running from the second case to the front diff.

Why do you need new gears to run a crawler box? 2.28 and 2.28 still gives a hell of a low range, and still gives you a good choise of gears. And you don't need to drop $300 for a new housing. Find a junk yard case, and take it appart. Or look used. I've seen a few crawler boxes on here and on pirate4x4.



If you're looking for "other options" you could try to find a Turbo T-case. they are gear driven, but have a 23 spline input shaft and mount to an R-series tranny. Might be tough to find though, they were only available 86 and 87.
