I really want to remove my brake backing plate on the assembly. But I'm wondering if it will cause any problems... I use my truck mostly as a Daily driver/work truck, so city and highway miles, but I do go off road occasionaly and plan to do more trails this summer.

Is there any really good reason I need to keep or lose the backing plates? ty much.

 

This makes no sense !

Drum brakes have to have the backing plate to keep out mud, sand and water. They also are the mounting point for the brake shoes and wheel cylinder.

On disc brakes - the backing plate directs the air to cool the rotor as well as to keep out mud, sand and debris.

Why do you want to remove them ? What possible benefit would it provide ?

 

Uh Doc...he is talking about on the FRONT axle.

They replace the dust shield that goes around the rotor on the front axle if you get the bigger brake calipers.

I have them on my front and rear axle, but my rear axle is a full floater.

Great product...and I sell them to boot.
