I have a 90 4runner with a manual tranny that I am looking into swapping a 3.4l in. I found a donor vehicle. Its a 98 Tacoma 4x4 automatic. I know the ecu will have to be switched out with one of the same year and manual tranny but will this new ecu plug right into the 98 wiring harness off the auto or will I also have to find a wiring harness of the same year make model ect. to accompany the ecu that is set up for the manual tranny? I have done a bit of looking around the site but couldn?t find exactly what I was looking for. Any help is greatly appreciated!

 

Well I kind of doubt it it will plug right in since the engine harness for the auto includes the wiring for the tranny. (different ECUs and different harnesses) Are you planning to build your own conversion harness? If so, with the EWDs for all the trucks involved you may be able to repin the plugs and figure out a way to make it work but you'd have to be pretty dang good at wiring and have lots of time.

If you're planning on having Mike @ ORS build the conversion harness then call him and ask if he can/will do it.

IMHO you haven't found a donor truck until you find one with a manual tranny.
