Exclamation Just bend me over 3.Slow

I was driving home in the snow storm last night; the truck was running pretty strong. The second I turned into my court the F****** thing exploded and white smoke was so thick you could barely see. I knew exactly what happened. The motor I pain staking swapped 2 months ago just blew its head gasket. Sigh..... Guess its back out to the garage where I belong....

Since I am going to replace the head gasket and have the entire top end off the car is it worth getting a port polish?

Sorry to here that dude. How meny miles did you have on it? I just had my compleat top end done. Running great. The only problem is, that the rig is using about 1 to 1 and 1 half qts of oil every 3000 miles. I must point out tho, I'm doing hard driving everyday on the hwy. Crusing around 70-75 mph for about 50 stright miles. I don't no if this is normal or not, but I wish I did no. I donot see any oil drippings at all, and the motor is dry all around. Good luck with you HG job. Also while you in there, it might be good to change the timing Belt as well as the water pump.

Why another 3.0 isn't going in mine if it blows... 3.4L all the way!

I blame you for swapping in another 3.0 Seriously 3.4, sbc 5.7, vortec 2.8 or 4.3 or SOMETHING else.

I wouldn't put another dime into the 3.slow. Do the 3.4 swap, you'll be much happier in the long run.

The same thing happened to me, I wish I had shelled out another 1k for the bottom end too. Mine got up to burning 3 quarts every 3k. I think the rings got used to the low compression of the old heads and when I got the new top end (w/ headers), it blew out the rings and wasn't sealing anymore. Then, over time it killed my cat so I've had to put 2 new ones to pass smog in over the past 4 years because of the amount of oil it uses.

If I was to do it over again, I'd do the whole thing unless the bottom end is less than 60k. It's gotten so bad that I limit my driving time in it to get ready for the 3.4 swap.

Well, if it's gonna be free, I can see putting a 3.0 back in, but I would take FULL advantage of having the motor out of the truck - headers, cam, etc.
