A new idea

Has anyone ever attempted to make diamond plate door panels? If so, how much effort was involved, do you have any suggestions, etc....pics?

for the inside or out??? I havent done door panels but covered the front of a camper trailer with it for protection from rocks. We cut the existing outside off and made a frame. We used aluminum diamond plate. We just bent it around curves (note they were minor curves nothing like a 90* bend) but that could still be done. Then just rivet it in place. Was a pretty simple job for that. So I suppose it could be done.

I'm talking about the inside. I was just wondering if anyone had ever done it before. I completely forgot about rivets, that would definitely be easier than my idea. (I have an 86 p/u) So it would really just be a question of cutting the panels to size and cutting holes in it to accommodate the door handle, window roller, and the other handle (I guess you call it the oh ˟˟˟˟˟ one on the door) I have seen people make custom panels for other rigs, but never a diamond plate one.

I seem to recall pics of one somewhere...maybe it was on pirate...or it may have been in a jeep. I am pretty sure that you could do it-would you leave it bare aluminum or paint it? I would think that it might be a bit bright in the summer unpainted.

i am actually in the process of designing some right now and i plan on doign all the rear panels as well due to the fact that my 6x9 speakers mounted in the plasict in the back have just about ripped it off anyway. But ya its one of my projects for when it gets nicer out. Plus diamond plate is really expensive.

I would leave it bare aluminum. I just love the look of diamond plate. And note it is on the inside panel. I agree that is expensive, but like I said, that would be awesome to do something like that. That is just an idea I got since I basically have nothing to do besides work on my truck. (still in highschool)

i think it would be cool to build a set of tube doors...kinda like the ones below, but fill the gaps in with diamond plate.

Ya those tube doors would look sick with diamond plate in them. Dang, those doors on that blue truck look good. Ya I am also considering of putting an old sunroof into mine when I do the doors. (if I do the doors)
