here is the deal, i am looking at an 85 runner in Nor. Cal, and an 87 in AZ. i want a trail rig, but dont really know if i should actually bite and spend the 2500+ on the rig and then like a whole lot more to make it a worthy trail runner. OR save my money and spend it on something useful since i already have a perfectly good runner now. i am a college student, working part time as a valet. i will be transferring for a 4-year university in about a year or so. so when i do that i wont have much time to be working on a trail rig, let alone wheel it.
what do you guys think?

i would wait and save your money. depending on the condition of the rig and how much it needs to be modified for trail use, it could cost alot of money and TIME to build up. and if you think you won't have the time since you're a student, then what's the point of having a trail rig if you can't play.

plus, you can save your money. buy one in 2-3 years, and have the money to buy the mods and the time to do it.

 

im actually in the same boat, i have a 95 runner that i wheel occasionally but i really hate to cause its scratching the heck outa the paint, and its my only car so id hate to brake or damage it. ive been looking at buying a pre-1985 yota pickup which would already have a solid front axle to build up as a trail rig. im looking around for a REAL beater hopefully for less than a grand, and work on it over the next two years. id say if you got the money to get the rig and you like wheelin enough go for it, i dont care how busy you are theres ALWAYS some time for 4wheelin

 

If you have enough money and time to do it now, more power to you.

Between school and the rest of life, I hardly have time for one rig.

why dont you just wait until a nice rig rolls up for valet service and adopt it as your own, you can then use you new (and free) rig to look for a new job seeing as your boss (and the owner of the rig) would be pretty damn pissed you stole the car

 

hahaha that sounds like a good idea, too bad most the cars we get are crappy rental tauruses and buick le sabres. ive been there a year and never seen a 1st gen 4runner. but i did see a huge 2nd gen, i called dibs on parking it as soon as i saw it
