I have a 94 toyota pu and I put a V6 radiator in my 22re, runs real cool, do you think if I were to switch thermostats for a lower one and didnt run fan, it would be ok from over heating, the V6 radiator is aproximatly 1 inch thicker, its the 3vze one. Suggestions would be sweet.

Yeah, you need your fan. Try switching t-stats.

 

That sounds like a bad idea to me. it cant be that much bigger to not need a fan. You need a MUCH bigger rad to have the same temps with a smaller rad with a fan. Think about if you are sitting in traffic..the water still isnt getting any cooler since its basking in its own heat...

No fan is not an option.
You could install a flex-a-lite electric fan. It will easily fit and do the job. I have been running one since 1996 on my 4Runner--150K miles or so.
It is hard on the charging system though so make sure everything is tip top.

 

Why do you want NO fan? And going to a cooler thermostat will destroy your mileage, as the ECU dumps more fuel in to get the engine to operating temp.. All around a bad idea....

 

Just an Idea, trying to gain cheap power, what the heck I'll just take the fan off for a day and run around town and into traffic and see how it perfroms, if it gets past normal at all Ill turn around and go home.

 

3rd vote for "bad idea" - it won't flow enough air when going slow.
Want cheap power, add an electric fan.

dude its a 22RE, short of TONS of cash your not really going to notice a huge difference... but hey if you do take your fan off and overheat it, you would probally warp the head.. so it will give you an excuse to spend money on power, with a new/remachined head, might as well upgradea the cam, valves... etc..

Just beacuse its a larger radiator doesnt mean it can cool it at low speeds. I have a massive 3 core 22re radiator in mine, and wouldnt think about running no fan..

 

Get a genuine Toyota thermostat. I had one in my truck from the local auto parts store and it would get almost to the cold line when I would go down a long hill. I then put in the Toyota thermostat, which has a rubber seal on the valve, and now it will stay a lot warmer going down the same hills.

It is best for an engine to stay at the proper temperature and the heater works better. Running without a good thermostat and no fan is going to allow it to get too cold going down hill and too hot when going slow or climbing a steep hill. An electric fan would probably be better in your case because it would not spin at all when it is off.

 

Ok electric it is, any suggestions on where to get one.

 

Do a search for Taurus fan mod. An electric fan from a Ford Taurus will fit with a little work and you can get them at the junk yard for significantly less than an aftermarket one.

 

Be sure to get a good 2 speed conotroller with the tarus fan, as thats the brains behind it.

 

There have been a lot of people having a lot of problems with the electrics be it Flex-a-Lite or Taurus... crackerjack overheated twice at Windrock last week because his electric kept deciding to fail. Putting an electric fan on and fixing what ain't broken for little/no gain just doesn't seem worth the money and work.

 

Well I cant stand the sound the fan makes now, and Ive broken it off twice now because I cant fit a fan shroud do to the oversized radiator, and the gain is the cooling, its just more efficent, quiter, and save a bit of power, why not do a cheap junkyard swap.

 

Can someone give me a link about the tarus electric fan because I searched for about a half an hour and I cant find any info.
