Brush Guard
I have a 1994 4Runner and I have a chrome brush guard and i was wondering what everyone thinks about painting it black? I was going to sell it but its sort of rusty and i don't want to go through the hassle so i just thought about painting it.

lets not turn this into a thread about whether or not brushguards are worth it or not.
If you want to paint your brushguard and dont have the money to get it professionally done just do it urself. Sand it down real good, clean the surface of all the impurities left over, and go over it with whatever paint you wish. Herculiner is really messy and might be a pain to get on the rounded surface. Go with the rustoleum hammered spray paint. If you ever scratch it up and get knicks on it just take it off and spray over it again. Take your time and do it right. Make sure to prep good first or it will wear way faster then ud like.

Guess you got lucky....every wreck I've seen with brush guards, it caves in and smashes the radiator into the engine block....IMO the only thing brush guards are good for is protecting your bumper from A$$holes who can't park.

Depends on the guard, cheap crap is cheap crap. A Warn brushguard is tough stuff!

and back to teh topic on hand....
Generally, cheaper paints have a hard time sticking to that chrome for very long. Have you tried cleaning off the rust with WD-40 and fine-thread steel wool? If the rust is only on the surface, it will take it right off without damaging the finish.

Agreed. However, if he is just looking to sell it...it may be the solution he is looking for!
