Take the valves out, maybe lap them, get the deposits off the head, etc.

What can be done to clean this entire package up? Thanks.

Use a Scotch Bright pad on a sanding block (2x4) for Alumium. my $0.02

i second for hot tanking it best way thta doesnt leave naythign behind. Seen peopel cermaic coat the chamber on the haed and the valves befor

 

If you have to do it at home, use oven cleaner & let it sit for a while (before you dissasemble the head). You'll have to do the chambers & ports too- I do them after the valves are out. Get a quality scraper that won't gouge the aluminum & you're off to the races.

 

I used a scotch bright pad, scraper, and can of brake cleaner...

Seemed to do fine for cleaning the combustion chambers...I let the guy doing my valve job clean the rest...

If you lived a little close to me then I'd say bring it by and I would glass bead blast it...

 

I have found oven cleaner can be aggresive on aluminum... so be cautious.

On a side note, oven cleaner will remove the anodized finish on bike parts when you get tired of your 3-D purple.

 

oven cleaners and carbon-buster type cleaners eat away at aluminum, i wouldn't use em. Usually say right on the bottle "not safe on aluminum or other soft metals!"

on that note, brake cleaner and elbow grease or have a shop do that dip process or whatever they do to clean blocks and heads.
