Computer upgrade. aka pwnmachine v3.0

I have been doing a little shopping lately..

I got TWO of these XFX GeForce 7900 GS to run in SLI

Got a simple DFI sli 939 socket board and AMD 64 4000 sandiago.

and to make sure hl2, doom3, rainbowsix vegas, and games for the next few years look great at 4x AA, 8x AF, with everything else on max, 1600x1200 res and 100 FPS I got me a 20.1" wide screen spectra . 5ms response and 1000:1 contrast - I can't imagine the difference over the 17inch 300:1 12ms one i have now

I will be reusing my 2 250 gig sata drives in raid with 2gig 4x512 pc4000. I hope my antec 450watt ps can keep up..

This is a pretty big move for me.. I have been Intel and ATI user for a while and I have just been getting this feeling for a while

I wish cpu manufactures could make it just a little harder to distinguish the qualities of processors and assess needs vs value vs performance..... seriously it is like there is nothing to choose from.

yah i was just about to say that when those cards come out everything that is DX 9 now will drop soooooo much in price....

but your setup is a killer....

i'm running two 6800 GTs in SLI from back-in-the day (2 years ago) and it was awsome...those things run doom 3 without any problem also. Also a 3800 AMD and Gigabyte SLI mobo

HAVe FUN!

$$$$

mostly...

Also, no dx10 games, no games utilizing dual or quad cores. I have a hyperthreading cpu now. That turned into nothing... They where talking quad core when duals hit the shelf, might as well wait for octa core or even a centered pentagonal numbered core... uhhh.

I also hear the 8800 cards with dx10 have been giving some people problems and they need to run games in dx8 for some reason.. It will not even play rb6 vegas.... for about $500.. ouch.. Those two cards in sli are slightly faster, at the cost of power, heat, and space.

I guess I will have to see how dx10 games with sm4.0 shader running on quad cores look before i feel toooo stupid. (that and they with have cost a quarter of what they do now)

I forgot the most important part.. I got great deals on everything.. I am way to cheap to buy these at current market prices. A little haggling, price matching, code searching, and luck had to happen here.. I got all of that for about a loaded xbox 360..

not yet but crysis looks unbelievable. i was looking into getting a opteron 165 and selling my fx-53 for the dual cores, plus they over clock very nicely, but decided to wait for dx 10 and quad cores.

Can't wait to make my submersible pc. In the inert liquid with copper pipes pumping liquid nitrogen through them constantly... It'll be sweet. Overclock 600%... heh heh. I'll definitely be getting a dual core AMD when I can afford it. I may or may not run two video cards in SLi... who knows... as you said, it's all about the Benjis.

I gotta say...... SLi is freaking awesome

I can't quite put it into words.... Just imagine half life 2, highest settings, dynamic light, 4xAA and 8xAF running at 200fps....
