approx weight of my truck.

I was wondering about how much my 85 single cab weighs. Mainly wanted to know for towing purposes.

Look at the GVWR sticker on the door jamb and subtract the cargo capacity (~1000-1200 lbs.) for an empty weight estimate. Or find a truck stop or public scale and get it weighed for a closer number. My '85 4Runner tips the scales a bit over 4600# loaded with gear:

4800 GVWR on my '85 4Runner, should be the same on the pickups, just more cargo capacity there, so 3600-3800 lbs. would be a good guess.

my 3rd gen's curb weight is only 3975 so thats kinda crazy. Im asking because I am debating whether I should tow my new truck with my 4runner.

I am getting my truck builtup and was wondering if anybody tows a trailrig on a tandem axle regularly behind a 4runner on the highway and such. I think thats what ill be doing soon. Kinda worried about my tranny. I use my head and dont like gun it from a stop or give it hell on the interstate passing people, but my tranny still kinda worries me. probably about 2 grand for a new one. Thinking about another tranny cooler to go along with the stock one.

OK, I pull a 7X16 tandem axled full of dirt bikes, race gear and support gear. In fact, look at the link in my sig file, click on the 2004 Cargomate. I tow it with my 98 Tacoma V6 5 spd, no trouble. Your 4Runner is rated for the same as my truck. Accel easily from a dead stop. Diff can wrap with a heavy load and kink or bind the u-joints. You will feel a (((shake))) if you get enough wrap from a hard accel from stopped. Just ease from the stop, get it rolling then start powering on. Do get the electric brakes set up in your rig though. It pulls it nicely, just dont expect me to fly over mt grades, but normal areas, I'm rolling with traffic at 60+ MPH. Oh, turn off OD unless load is real light like going downhill unless you need some engien braking. With your ATM, I would add a supplemental cooler, but get one that has its own mounts, not something that wire ties itself to the core of your 4Runner. These have aluminum cored radiators (great for getting rid if heat) but will poke or chaffe open a hole with any abrasion from a tranny cooler stacked up against it. You do have an ATM temp light also that will let you know when things are getting toasty.

I rented the tandem uhaul and towed it once and was kinda pleased and my 4runner has been through a lotta hell. Thanks for the tips I just was wondering about doing so regularly. Im in college and am working hard to afford to build my trail rig and hopefully buy a trailer and a new tranny just isnt an expense i need anytime soon. In an ideal world id have enough money to get something bigger (new tundra) ohh man!!! but love my 4runner all the same and don't want to break anything else.
