headman header install write up

ok, first I ordered a Headman header from Summit racing for my budget build up (header was $119). It arrived almost 5 weeks later and here is what comes with the kit.

I decided to strip the rust protection coating off before installing to make it easyer.
and then I removed the original exhaust from the truck and cut the y section off of the original connecting pipe.
after test fitting the header I found that the collector flange needed to be trimed to clear the suspension in the front as seen with the gasket and the clearence after triming the flange.
soo far it looks cool but is leaking exhaust like crazy.
I will let you all know if I get it to seal up.. thats why I was reluctant to cut the stock connecting pipe... I can't put it back on now....:pat:

reason for leake at the head...

Headman makes the welds at the mounting face of the header about 1mm higher than the mounting surface and the ports are a little shorter than the ports on the head..... viola leaks. Now to make the mating surface of the header flat ant the leaks should go away
warrenty was gone when I modified the flange...
can't do it tomorrow (sundays in germany are quiet days) so looks like the truck is down for the weekend...

So far the review of the headman header for the 22re with o2 connections....
NOT GOOD!

Headman you want a link to this review on your website?
lol

i dunno, my headman on my 22re worked great, i had to trim stuff, and i couldnt get the collector to seal with the stock pipe, but thats cause its not a drop in header, you have to fabricate stuff. you can expect that with everything, but the only leaks i have are the ones at the collector.

oh yeah one more thing, i bought mine used, so i didnt come with the gasket, what i did was go and get a stock exauhst system gasket, drill out the rivits for the spark plug wire heat gaurd, and put just a smidge of gasket maker on the gasket, (cover it compltely with abot 1 mm of gasket maker. worked great on mine.

update

thanks for the idea wade! I busted out the grinder today and made the mounting surface flat (30 minutes of carefull grinding) then used a stock gasket minus the wire shield with a crap load of exhaust silicone on the header side and then monted it up. Viola
