im trying to get my smog done so i can get registered and get my car on the road, the smog guy didn't pass it and said i need to replace my pcv hose because it had electrical tape on it. im not super mechanically inclined but i think i can do that. came someone show me where that hose is and how i would go about replacing it on my 95' 4runner??

 

Did you look for the hose with electrical tape on it? it should come off of your PCV valve (the plastic doohickey coming out of the valve cover), I haven't looked at mine in forever, so I don't remember which side but I think it's the driver's side. I'll try to find pictures.

 

oh, yeah, it might help if you told us what engine you have.

I can't find a good picture right now, but if you still have the underhood sticker showing your vacuum lines I think it will be shown. PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation and the valve will be on top of one of your valve covers with a hose connecting it to the intake.

 

The Op doesn't say whether 22RE, or 3VZ engine. Not so easy to get to the PCV components on the 3.0.

 

this is a 3.0 liter engine, I don't know what a 6.0 is but it's not a 3VZE

there's a hose from the driver's side up to a PCV valve right by the throttle body too.

 

I don't think there is a PCV valve on the driver's side hose. But that COULD be the one with electrical tape on it.

If it's the real PCV hose (passenger side, as indicated by akwheeler's picture), then you MUST get the formed hose from the dealership. https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/T...226165010.html Trying to use plain-ole hose won't work; the bend is too sharp and it will just kink. Also, you might need some really long-nosed pliers (or extremely tiny hands) to reach under the plenum to get to the valve itself.

Well, why don't you replace the PCV valve while you're in there? Yeah, you should, but the grommet holding the valve will be as hard as a rock. The right way to fix that is to gently bite the bullet and remove the plenum. Then you can remove the PCV valve (it will take some force) and dig out the crapped-out grommet. Replace the grommet https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/T...048018001.html , PCV valve, and hose -- you'll be good to go.
