I have a 1990, 2nd generation, Toyota 4Runner, 4 door.
My front wiper washer fluid comes out fine. However I have no fluid coming out for the back wiper. The back wiper wiper arm works fine but there's no fluid that comes out.
A couple questions:
1) Is there one wiper fluid pump or is there too?
2) How do I troubleshoot the back fluid problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Is this a new to you vehicle or a new problem that appeared?

In the first case someone might have installed the check valve backwards. Otherwise the line or nozzle is plugged or disconnected.

 

I've had my 4Runner since it was basically new. The back fluid isn't used a lot but when I went to use it, no wiper fluid comes out now. Front wiper fluid comes out fine. Resevoir for the wiper fluid is full.

I'm looking for guidance on how to troubleshoot this. Answers I'm looking for are:

1. Does my 4Runner have 1 fluid pump for the front and another for the back OR is there only 1 fluid pump?
2. If the back is clogged, specifically, how do I unclog it?

I'm looking for specific (literally, step by step) guidance since I'm new to this, fix it myself, arena.

I'll appreciate any input and guidance. Thx!

you may have a rear pump failure.

 

Listen for the pump at the tank while someone activates the rear washer system

Pump failure as mentioned above, or simple blockage of the line (that was my problem with my (front washer)
IF it is anything like the first-gen 4Runner, the pump would be attached to the washer fluid container. IF you hear the pump working, check for blocked lines.
If you do not hear the pump working, disconnect connector to it, and measure voltage across the 2 terminals of connector ON HARNESS. Also measure resistance between terminals ON PUMP.

 

Well looks like they made it not so simple. It uses the rear window control box instead of a simple switch.

 

If it is anything like my first Gen 4runner, there is a washer fluid bag in the back with the jack. Maybe it is empty.
