Your truck looks great. You will enjoy driving around in a new looking older truck. Most are run down that you see on the road and you will get some thumbs up while driving. I have had a few people to want to look at when getting gas. The cowls do get dirty, another surprise is the Evaporator https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...trucks-286766/

I have checked every site that I can think of looking for a rear bumper. You can find the front bumper but not for the rear. Would you mind posting a link to the big screen cowl? I have never seen one on any truck and I have been into well over 100 of these trucks.

This guy was selling these on eBay. He was asking $35 but I sent him an offer of $20 shipped. My truck had the two smaller screens but not the big one. I haven't touched the 4Runner this weekend so I haven't installed them. I think this is the first auction for these things I've noticed and they were for sale at just the right time. I'll be selling the two smaller ones:

I've also found a few dealers with the rear chrome bumper. Every one of the used bumpers seems to be bent. Sullivan Toyota has the best price of all of them for a new OEM one . I only need the middle blade. $185 plus $15 shipping to me. I'll probably wait until October to order it. I would go after market if they made them.

I was also goofing around with the "wheelhouse quarter covers." I'm going to restore them and use emblem tape to install them. We closed the holes on the trucks body that they clip to. I know they are discontinued in the U.S. They have a part number on the back and I googled it. There's a place in Japan called megazip.net that sells a lot of discontinued parts. They cost $56 each with $22 shipping from Japan for both. Shipping would take 20 days. Here's the link to my shopping cart. I'm not going to order them but they might be a good source for some unobtainium parts:

I found several dealers still show the cowl vents as part # 55755. Lakeland Toyota (Overstock) has it for $17.68 but they don't show the large vent cover. I've tried it as an 85 4Runner and an '88 4Runner.

http://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=490655&ukey_make=1 060&modelYear=1985&ukey_model=15426

edit: By doing an image search the big vent belongs on the 90-95 4Runner and 89-95 pickups.

My son took the dog to the dog park today and took some pictures. His Nikon is better than my iPhone pictures!

Thanks! He's in love with it finally and now I'm getting few chances to work on it. It's supposed to be 75 degrees tomorrow so maybe...Older son came home with my 2000 so he's going to want to wax it. When I say, "you're gonna want to wax that." He brought 3 kids home at $20 a head. So proud.

Thanks! I got a nice OEM chrome bumper and have painted the backside of it to discourage rust. I will put the valence back on. I had taken it off and had it painted separately since I can't stand the look of painted over screws on other 4Runners. I haven't put stuff back on because the 4Runner is seldom standing still lately. My son has finally bonded with it.

Excellent! I love the stock look of these old runners. I can't blame your son for wanting to be in it all the time! I'd be ecstatic to have had one that looked this great at his age!

It's been a couple of months since I've posted progress. I got the new rear bumper on and it looks great but I don't seem to have pictures. We had a minor maintenance crisis and there wasn't much info on the 'net. "Brake lights don't light." After checking the fuse and bulbs and cleaning the fuse box they still didn't light. I used Rad4Runner's tutorial here in post #167: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/classi...ml#post2585137

No dice. I ordered a new brake light switch from eBay. The Toyota list is $78 but a seller had a new OEM switch for $22

Here's where it goes: Name: 6F7BB1CF-5DF4-4F12-B482-5B5C5720BF3F_zpsx2oe6kjd.jpg

It goes under the dash. There's an air vent pipe in the way so it's best to remove that. I ended up taking out the driver seat for more room. The actual change out takes a couple of minutes with a 14mm wrench. This is where the switch is located from an eBay listing. It's the black thing at the top to the left of the brake pedal. I hope this helps because I found little on the internet or FSM. If you have "Brake Lights Won't Go Off" there's a rubber pad that hits the white plunger on the switch. You can see the round rubber piece below. They wear out or get a hole. Some people glue a penny there. I hope this helps someone:

1st gen Tacoma floor liners fit 1st gen 4Runners

I think WeatherTech floor liners are the best but when I tried to find floor liners for my 2000 Tacoma X Cab I could only find Husky liners in gray. We sold the Tacoma and I got a new 2016 Tacoma. Come to find out 1st gen Tacoma floor liners fir the 1st gen 4Runner pretty well,

The rears fit great:

I didn't take a picture of the driver's side, I guess because it's so muddy. Anyway it fits. I need to get some industrial Velcro to stick them down better because I have vinyl floors instead of carpet.

Interesting how similar the floor mats are between the 4Runner and the Taco. What part of Virginia are you from? Anywhere near Hampton Roads?

I'm in Richmond. I almost never see 1st gens here any more. My son is driving it and it's the oldest vehicle in the school parking lot.

They probably made Weathertechs for 1st gens at one point but discontinued them. I got a Weathertech liner for the rear of my '97 4Runner when I bought it in the fall of '96. I'm using it in my 2000 so I think I got my money's worth.
