Treknwil's 2007 FJ Cruiser build-up thread

I bought my FJ in March 2006.
The first day home.

Second day, at Greenhorn above Nevada City Ca. STILL NO MODS!

First mod was adding mt Yakima Rack.

Second mod Make a light bar out of the racks cross bar and put 4 KC's on it.

Mounted a Stinger Flashlite and charger to dash

Added my home made Level lift(no after market level lifts where made yet)

after its now level

Replaced stock tires with Goodyear MTR's 285/70-17's

Made my own home made Rock sliders.

Testing the mods so far.

After doing Slickrock (nor-cal) I had to make some Lower A arm skides.

Made some mounts for a High Lift.

And made a handle keep

Next mod I had to do! Replace bent LA arm. All Pro LA arm

Made my own rack system on the rear door.

Installed a CB radio.

Well that's it for now, I'm playing with the idea of making a Front tube pumper.

Well I haven't added much to my FJ in some time. I've been concentrating on my 87 4runner. But know its time to turn my attention to the FJ. I've been wanting a new front bumper forever. So here it is,

The center section is a brush gaurd off a late 90's Suburban, that I got off of Craigslist.

The wings are 1/8" plate steel.

The bars are .120 DOM tubing.
The mounting are via 1/4" angle iron 4" wide.

I have yet to install the Superwinch I have. That will come soon.

Here are some more pics!!!!

From: Bryan Tx,
I hear you, seems like I have more time & reasources than money. I have made a bunch of my own parts for my build, managing a machine shops definatly has it's perks.

I got my Superwinch mounted and added some more steel to box up the ends of the bumper. Here are some pics.

Added a dual battery setup. I went with a manual approach, with a on & off switch to isolate the battery's. The switch is rated at 300amps and I ran 1/0 welding cable between them and the ground to the frame. The winch is feed from the extra battery.

I made the battery tray out of 1" angle iron and use a strap to secure the battery.

Trek, can you go into more detail on your dual battery setup?
I take it when you flip the switch to on the alternator charges up the second battery?

I just had a new Redtop put in the other day to replace a failed Yellowtop.

Yes! The switch is inline coming from the the main battery + side. So it picks up the charge from there. Do you know why the Yellow top failed?

Not sure why it did, but if you Optima Yellowtop, a few forums out there say the same thing, that the battery only lasted them a year or less.

They got bought out a few years back, and I think they are assembled in Mexico right now.
I got an 84 month warranty though on my Redtop via Les Schwab Tires, and the first two years no questions asked and a free replacement if it fails.
