If you plan on using XBox Live I recommend you don't do it as you will get your account permanantly banned. Any modification, including a simple swap to a larger sized Hard Drive, will cause bannination.

Probably Google, Google always knows.
My sons PS1 was modded with the chip, so that games could be copied to CD in a CD burner, and they would then work in the PS1.
Discs often get scratched up easily, so making a backup of a $50 game was good insurance.
