No they don't... but they may work differently than you're used to.

From that pic, it looks like you've been adding all your bookmarks to the toolbar.

Your FJ folder is there, but it looks like it may be nested somewhere. You'll need to manage where everything is and learn about how to keep this from happening in the future.

There are a number of ways to get to your bookmarks in FF, each one will let you see/search/manage all of them. The two main ones are:
  • Hitting CTRL-B will bring up a bookmarks window
  • Clicking Bookmarks (on the title bar), then Manage will bring up a full screen that gives you a ton of options.
I've soapboxed before about FF's disk management of bookmarks - it's incredibly efficient. All of the bookmarks are in one file, which is WAY WAY different than IE creating a separate file for each bookmark. That's just stoopid. Outside of wasting disk space, it creates a hassle to try to back them up.

Nope, was not hitting the traingle, was using the drop down arrow and selecting the FJ folder.

I just tried the triangle, and it found my HUGE 4x4 Stuff folder from IE when I imported it, and it worked!

Mark, I still do not know where all of the other ones are, as I had a ton.
But they are not in the bookmakr toolbar folder.

I will chalk it up to a big loss and start adding them all again the way Cal posted above.

One thing still bugs me, I can not alpha them.
WHen you click on manage them, I can.
But once I go to the bookmarks at the top toolbar to bring up one to surf, the FJ folder is at the very end of the 4x4 Stuff folder, and not in correct order.

Getting the hang of this, but I find IEs a tad easier.

I'm well aware the FF updates itself. What I was referring to is that you can't use the Windows Update site using Firefox because Microshaft wants you to use IE for that. Probably with good reason, but it's still annoying to search for my IE executeable.

At work I'm forced to use IE. When at home I stick to Firefox. I do find that some sites don't work as well with Firefox than IE, but those are all having something to do with Microsoft. The biggest example I can think of is Microsoft Exchange. In Firefox all of the icons are buggered up. Otherwise I find Firefox to be miles ahead of IE.

*raises hand pathetically* I use IE...never even tried firefox. I'm blissfully (albeit perhaps ignorantly) happy with IE.

I've been using FF for aboot 3 yrs now...Had too many issues with IE..Especially when re-installing Windows.

I especially like that the FF bookmarks are all kept in one FILE, and also that its an .html file.
Makes it easy to share bookmarks with other people, makes for easy bookmark backups (even tho FF does this automatically).

The only thing I DONT like, is the way FF buries the file in the Documents and Settings folder, and that its easy to Import bookmarks from several other programs, but NOT from an older version of FF, or if you have to re-install FF.

An older version this wont work with I think, but so long as you take that bookmarks file and have it on hand and choose to import it it works fine. I have done it a million times.

Awesome plug-in, Mark. Since installation, Ad-Aware finds maybe 2-3 harmless ads per week vs. previous 3-5 critical and 15-20 harmless. Thanks!

You can put this, and all of the user profile data, to anywhere you want using the ProfileManager:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

??? I think I've used my same bookmarks.html file for every release of FF since before it was called FireFox. I've never had to actually "import" it at all - I just drop the HTML file into the directory where I keep my profile.

Thanx for the tip on the profile manager.

And, yeah...thats what I mean...You have to manually locate the .html file, and copy it over into your new profile. Easy to do, unless you lose your original file somewhere, or you end up with several different profiles like I did.

Are you talking about for URL history or text boxes on a page? There are a few extensions out there that may help...

https://addons.mozilla.org/search.ph...10&app=firefox

From a quick look, you may wanna look at Text Complete or Autocomplete Manager.

I think the default in FF is to use horizontal touchpad gestures as history navigation. You can change this behavior through a config option.
  • enter "about:config" in the address field. Hit ENTER
  • enter "mousewheel.horizscroll." into the "filter" field. Hit ENTER
  • change the following fields:
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withcontrolkey.action = 3;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withcontrolkey.numlines = 1;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withcontrolkey.sysnumlines = true;

    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action = 0;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines = 1;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.sysnumlines = true;

    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withshiftkey.action = 1;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withshiftkey.numlines = 1;
    • mousewheel.horizscroll.withshiftkey.sysnumlines = true;
See if that helps...

Umm, does that mean that a) you couldn't get the about:config window to open; b) you couldn't find the field(s) to change; c) you changed the fields but horizontal scrolling still doesn't work?

Did you quit out of FF and resrtart it afterwards? Is this Windows or OS X?

Try changing "mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action" to "1" instead.
