Video card or monitor?.

The other day my wife was on the computer doing some work in Word when the screen went black.
Had to press the reset button and the computer came up fine.
A little while later i was playing on the computer and it did the same thing to me.
I did see that when the screen went black that a window on the monitor showed up saying "no signal" then went black. The computer is still running just a black screen.
Last night i had just logged on and went to get on the internet and the screen went black and received the "no signal" window.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Sounds like the video card.

My old computer would do that, but the opposite way. I'd turn the box on and the monitor would read "no signal" for like 10 minutes before it kicked on. The computer would be all ready to go... just no signal sent to the monitor. It's almost like mine had to warm up before it worked.

Do you have a spare video card you could swap into it as a test?

Gonna guess video card too or possible bad cable going from card to monitor. Sounds like monitor loosing sync signal from the video card. May also check to be sure teh video card is seated good on the mother board and cable are all tight too. Check the simple things first ...

Todd, I have a few extra cards laying around.
If you want, swing by Saturday if you can and we can test it out if you do not get it fixed by then.

Todd, if you end up bringing over your PC, we can also hook it up to my cable and get any updates you need for any of your progs.

Can also put some "kid" games on it that I am sure your kids will enjoy.
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is one of them.

I even play the game sometimes.
Very awesome side scroller game.
