Network/Download help.

Well I got the new notebook. I love it so far, real nice.

Anyways, at our place we have a network set up, our provider is Qwest because that is the only people that we can get where we are at, outside Durango.

Anyway, the internet works fine on all the computers but we can't download anything. I try to download even iTunes and the download will go for a little bit then it always freezes.

Can't play starcraft or warcraft because we can't download the patch, now thats a real bummer ha.

Any thoughts?

We called Qwest and they said they see no problems on their side, no kidding. We are using a new Belkin router.

Are you saying that none of the computers can download or just the new one?
If it only happens on that computer, logic suggests its something unique to the new system.

Did it ship with some kind of firewall or security software? Perhaps its "protecting" you from stuff. Try temporarily disabling your security software and see if that clears it up.

If it does, don't just leave it off. Figure out what settings need to be changed to let you do what you want because you do want some level of protection.

Are you posting from outside your house? If you can do ANYTHING online your connection is working. Try playing around with the network settings and making sure you don't have the ethernet cable coming from the wrong plug in the router etc.

Clarification, NONE of the computers can download. Even the main computer hooked up to the router and modem. That's what I don't understand. Then we hooked the router/modem up to my laptop to see if it was my buddies desktop that was doing it, but then my laptop still couldn't download.

It is DSL, does that matter? I've never had DSL, just cable.

No I'm in my room actually. I mean the connection says "Very Good" 54.0 Mbps.
I understand that my connection is working, what I don't understand is why ALL of our downloads freeze.

Alright, but the computer that the modem and router are hooked up to now.

It is connected directly to the modem right? It doesn't go off of the router?
And its not able to download.

Or do I need to disconnect the router to see?

So the pc is connected directly to the modem without the router? If not try that. Also try going into the router settings and seeing if the issues there.

wait...

download?

i mean you can post here, right? so outgoing traffic is fine.

and since you can read the posts, incoming traffic is fine.

so, remove the router from the signal chain. then connect as many machines you can directly to the modem.

if you still cant download, i suggest you call qwest and ask them to escalate your call.

So have you tired plugging directly into the modem yet?

Sounds like your signal is coming through, but needs to reset itself every so often for whatever reason. Hence the lack of DL, but when on the net, it goes by un-noticed.
