Need Help With LapTop Decision!!!

Whats up everyone,
Well its my b-day the 28th of this month!!20 years old! anyways my parents said they would help me out in purchasing a laptop...although helping doesnt mean there paying for all of it.. i was thinking about going all out like i usually do and just blow all my money on the top of the line thing thats out but i cant do that anymore cuz iv relized now i need to be saving money for later when i really need it. Anyways im looking to spend like a grand on a new laptop. Iv been out to office depot and best buy looking around. I saw a nice hp but it only had a 14" screen and decided thats not big enough. i want the 15.4 that alot of them have. Im sooo stressing over this decision i need some help!! I need a fast computer with the 513mb of memory or whatever it is.. i need to be able to do the hole wireless connection thing plus with the DVD RW CD RW.. and most all of them came with these options im just putting them out there. I will usually be using it to surf the web, Uploading alot of pictures and video's and editing video's also. My desktop that i have in my room just isnt fast enough and lag's up like crazy when it gets to many clips im trying to edit and make a video out of. also running my GPS (earth mate w/ street atlas usa)// and being able to run games if i feel the urg to be a gaming guru again.
Any computer guru's that know there stuff... Plz i need ur help!!and even if ur not but u got one and u use it for the same purposes.. plz post some info..

Yotatech rules!!! i get more info from this forum than ANY IV EVER BEEN A PART OF!!!Thanx ALL!!

Price a dell online... you'll get much more machine for your grand. Please stay away from retail stores... they charge way too much.

Google search for "dell coupons". Lots of good deals on laptops out there. I remember last time I was fooling around with it and I priced a pretty decent Inspiron for $800.

A good site that always lists the current Dell coupons is eDealInfo.com. They show a Dell Inspiron 6000 right now that meets your specs for $973. That's $402 off with the coupon code. Shipping is free also.

Hey,
I would go with Dell too. You can go to the refurbished section on the dell website and they have stuff even cheaper. The stuff sells really fast, so you have to jump on something if you see what you like. I've seen a list of 10 dell 6000 laptops go down to 0 in 5 minutes. That's what I want, a dell inspiration 6000. You can get them with a 128 graphics card. I would love a XPS gen 2 laptop, but that's out of my price range. Both of my dad's laptops are refurbished Dells, and he has gotten great performance out of them. Costumer service is pretty good too. One time, some guy from Dell came out to our house in the country just to replace a little plastic cover on his lapton. My parents also have a Dell 8400 desktop, and it has been very good too.

Well, that's my $.02.
Have fun all.
Daniel

If you are going to be doing alot of video editing your probably going to have to spend more then a grand. It really all depends on what programs you are running.

I'm on a Toshiba M35x and its great. Has the 15.4 wxga widescreen lcd, 512meg, 60gig HD, built in wireless. It only has a Pentium Celeron 1.5ghz but thats more then fast enough for photoshop, game emulators, quake 3...not games like doom 3.

The thing I like about it is it was 699.99 at best buy after rebates. I got a 3 year warranty for like 100 bucks that will cover everything, even if I drop it.

I've been really happy with it. I've had it about a year and havent had any problems with it at all. Seems rock solid.

Wow, thanx for all the info guys. Ill definatly go to the websites above and surf around for some good deal's. Also ill look out for that 750 discount..that would be great!!Yeah im gonna probably end up spending alittle more then a grand when its all said and done. I priced/put togeather a dell on there website.. the one below the highest end 6000 and added the 8x dvdburner/cd-r and put 80GB on there instead of only 60GB. The price ran up FAST and was like 1300 in the end.. or close to it. dont really feel like spending that that much..but when i think about it my damn tv in my car was a little under that, i think ill get alot better usage out of this anyways. anyways im off the surf those sites yall posted.
Big Thanx!

I have worked with Compaq, IBM, HP, Toshiba, and Dell laptops in the past 7 years.

My recoimmendation for longevity is to go with an IBM thinpad t40 or t50 series as IBM laptops IMO are bulletproof. You pay a lil more, but you get what you pay for.

My t23 which I have had for 4 years has never given me problems, it is now running XP sp2 like a champ. Close second would be Dell...dell makes good quality products, though in my experience I have seen more hardware problems with the Dell than I have with IBM...Currently I am running a Thinpad T23 and a Thinpad T40 at work and they work like champs.

I am not a salesman of IBM's, if that's what it sounds like, but am giving you an objective view from experience. I would def. stay away from HP/compaq...biggest crapheaps ever. The toshiba I worked with not very much, but didn't have a "well built" feel to it...I have no experience with toshiba on a long term basis though...

DELL. Only computer company you should consider. I've got 2 Dell desktops, a DELL desktop at work and a DELL laptop at home...never an ounce of problem w/ any of them.

im assuming you mean the new 'shiny' screen, that reflects everything... honestly, if I were you I'd hope it didn't have it, reflects WAY too much, making it a PITA.
