update: i have audio. put in my old sound blaster LIVE! card. the KX Audio driver worked.

used callisto video card driver. had to take the atiradeon 9700 driver sets from os x tiger (laptop) and delete the atiradeon9700 from os x leopard, and replace them with the ones from the laptop. then edited the callistohal.kext file with my all in wonder x800's device ID, then installed the kext using x86 tools, then updated and repaired permissions, then rebooted with -F. the OS now sees the card as "ATI All In Wonder X800 256MB AGP" Quartz GL is turned on.
it isnt the same experience as the brand new macs at best buy and the apple store, but pretty damn close, considering the age difference (this dell is about 6 years old right now... think pentium4 before hyper threading era) and it runs almost like the new iMacs.
installing world of warcraft now (first good sign: i clicked 'play WoW', and it came up to the updater; when i installed it on the first round of os x before i got the drivers installed, id click it, and it would say no 3d hardware found) so will let everyone know how it turns out.

wouldn't it have saved you a lot of trouble if you had just bought a Mac?

I'd like to get maybe a Mac laptop, but I don't think I'd want one as a desktop for daily use...

I just discovered my MSI X58 motherboard, i7 920 processor, and my ATI 4870 graphics card is all fully supported with 10.6.3, with some minor tweaking

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.3

I probably wont have my TV Tuner card working, but no big deal; if I can figure a way out though, then that would be awesome!

I might have to give this a try!

because I literally have nothing better to do in my spare time, lol

I might be trying to get this to work tonight!

Going to be using Empire EFI as to start the load, and installing 10.6.3, and then setting up the kext for my 4870 if I need to. From what I read, the 4870 should be native to OS X, and it should work out of the box... but we'll see...

my DL DVD burner is giving me hell trying to make this OS X disc...

I think I got it now... Nero killed 2 DVD's by corrupting them during the burn, so I searched for alternate burning programs, and it looks like ImgBurn is working smoothly

It's 12% complete burning over 8GB to the disc, so this might take a while, lol

I'm going to try to get OS X installed tonight After more research, I think this will be easier than I originally expected, due to my hardware. All of it appears to be confirmed compatible with a Hackintosh system

I'll post with updates!

burn it SLOWLY. at 1x if you possibly can. and imgburn is GREAT. if you get it post up pics!!! with your processor you should be able to run VANILLA... just install boot132 onto a USB drive (its a EFI bootloader) and use a leopard upgrade dvd (available online or at select stores for like 30 bucks.. supposedly. with the bootloader on the USB, you can install snow directly from the dvd. again, supposedly. as for my video card problem, i just bought a geforce 6200 agp off of newegg (according to the wiki of osx86 supported devices this is one of the FEW agp cards 100% supported by leopard) and will probably sell my ALL IN WONDER agp.. just dunno what i could get for it. maybe ill just give it to my homeboy that runs G5s (powerPCs) and tell him how to flash it to mac.

I tried burning it at 1x... with 3 different programs; Power ISO, Nero, and ImgBurn... wasted 6 DL DVDs... I give up on burning my own disk. I'm going to the local Apple store in a few minutes to pick up a Snow Leopard DVD, lol; it's only like $30

I MIGHT swing by an Office Depot and pick up a cheap 100gb-300gb SATA HD too, instead of using the spare standard ATA 40gb I had planned on. If it works out well enough, and proves to be stabile, I may use it quite often

Or maybe I'll just partition the 300gb SATA that I already have installed... I dunno... Can I do that, and still boot Windows? I mean, can I have access to the same hard drive from 10.6 AND Windows?

In good news, I got Empire EFI Boot Loader on a disk, and I DO have that booting up from the CD!

iFail

at round one

think I'll try another boot loader... I've been through my bios at least 10 times, and everything is set right; as far as I can tell

this is just trying to boot the retail 10.6.3 disk

MUAHAHAHAHAH!

iWin

sitting out the 30 minute install process right now

iBoot Supported did the trick

ended up doing as suggested in a tutorial of removing all but 4gb or RAM (which was just one stick; I was running 6gb - 2gb x 3), removing any unessicary PCI harware (a TV tuner card), and unplugging all unneeded USB acessories (an infared reciever for the TV tuner)

I had a scare at first, because my USB keyboard wasn't working, but I quickly fixed that by unplugging it and plugging it into a different USB slot

this might work out quite well!

mkay, so here's the update...

I've got it so that it boots without the iBoot CD in... BUT, when it boots without the iBoot loader disk, there's no sound, and the CD/DVD drive doesn't show up at all on the system

If I boot WITH the iBoot loader, everything works perfectly; sound, drives, network, firewire; it's all there...

What am I missing?
