making a hackintosh - the official thread

so far so good, lol

I't would be fine on the laptop as the main OS, becuase I don't use it near as often as the desktop. And I'll just run an emulated Windows on OS X once it's installed, as long as everything's working (sound, internet, and so on)

mkay I give up on the laptop; it wasn't working out so well, and from what I could find, there's no support for the wireless card in it
so Windows 7 is going back on it
it needed a fresh install anyway; it was acting funny...

hold up a minute there. go to www.kexts.com and look for drivers. also download 'EFI Studio'.
ha, looks like youre inflicted with the Mac Madness.. welcome to the club... as of right now im trying to set up my new video card, bought a geforce 6200 agp on newegg, so trying to get that set up. i have it loaded up and everything, drivers (called kexts in MAC OS X ) but i need to tell it to load up in graphics mode so it will load QE/CI and my openGL drivers.

NICE!
Thank you for that!
I'm not sure how I didn't find that site in the search for kext's (yeah I know, it's a kext, not a "driver"
)
I may have to try again, lol, I think I just found some that'll work for the Intel video chipset, and the Atheros wireless card that's in it

copying the contents of the boot loader to the hard drive isn't working out too well...
and the same goes for the laptop too
on the laptop, if I boot with the loader CD, I have sound (kinda... the volume control doesn't work; it stays at full volume no matter the setting in the OS), keyboard, touchpad, everything (well accept for the video and network thing). but I also cannot find a kext for the Intel GL40 chipset that's in it

sweet...
just pulled all the info off the laptop that I really needed in order to find the right kext's
using a nifty little piece of software call Everest
WIFI: Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g Wireless Network Adapter
we'll try this ons
NIC: Realtek RTL8139/810x Fast Ethernet Adapter
we'll try this or this
Chipset: Intel Cantiga GL40 north bridge with Intel 82801IM ICH9M south bridge
that may be the kicker; I can't find anything specifically for the GL40 chipset... we'll see...
Video: Intel GMA4500M
we'll try this, this, or this
Sound: Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller
I guess I could try this; I can't find anything specific... I do have sound on it, but it bother's me not being able to turn it down
If I would have been thinking right, I would have just partitioned the HD after installing 10.6.3, and then installed Windows 7 onto the partition... but nooooo, I completely erased the 10.6.3 install and just did a fresh install of Windows 7... now I have to install 10.6.3 again

well, NIC and sound are now solid, but the GMA4500 graphics and the Atheros wifi adapter 'aint hapnen...
even after much searching and trial and error...
I've got native resolution, 1600x900 (as apposed to the 1024x768 it defaulted to), but there's a bunch of vertical lines on the screen, which from what I read is very common place trying to get this graphics chipset to work on the OS X
and the wifi adapter, well, I just can't find anything on, lol
so, I guess the laptop is staying Windows... boooo....

yeah the more I researched, the more Chameleon is coming up, so I have it downloaded and I'll put that on the desktop HD next time I run OS X

I'm still booting booting from the CD right now, as it's proven to get everything working, but I'm using it right now and everything's running smoothly
even have Parallels setup with Windows XP, so I can get my multi OS multitasking on

cool! good job!
yeah I got 7 set back up on the laptop and polished it off last night...
the least I could do is mimic some of the visual effects of Snow Leopard
but it still retains the Windows Aero style visual effects, because all the skinning methods were proving to be unstable...

and if it weren't for that stupid Intel graphics chipset, this number would be like 5.7 along with everything else, lol

but it's stabile, and I really like the way everything launches with just one click from the launch bar at the bottom, so it might stay like this for a while
