Lightscribe?

Has anyone here used a lightscribe drive? What do you think about it? Also, does anyone know if there are lightscribe double layer dvd's? I am thinking about purchasing a drive since I have talked to some people that really like them. Thanks!

I don't have one, but I've read about them. No real negative aspects to point out. Only thing that comes to mind is that it takes a while to burn an image to the cover, but hey... they look awesome! I'll probably get one when I'm ready to build my new PC. Hopefully by then they'll be a bit quicker.

Yea I am thinking of getting one after they release the 3rd (i think) update, supposedly burns the image faster. What I really can't wait to see is double layer media with lightscribe, I have searched on this, and it seems unavailable.

I got one with my new computer, but I can't figure out how to use it. It didn't come with instructions and I can't seem to find any, I haven't looked very hard though.

My friend has one. After burning your disc it will ask you to burn an image. Then flip over the disc to do your burn (scribe).....

The quality of the label is excellent, just make sure (if you have a laptop) that you start the label at least half an hour before you have to take your laptop anywhere, thats how long the burn takes. If you cancel the burn, and then try to start it again, the part that was already burned gets noticeably darker. One cool feature is if you want to add more text to the label, just add the text in the lightscribe software, then delete the text/graphics that were already burned, and it will all automatically line up correctly, hope that made sense,

What they need is several REALLY thin layers of colored film and the laser can change it's intensity to reveal different colors.

OK, I just picked up one of these drives (Sony version). What do I need to use the lightscribe? It didn't come with any drivers... Do any of the burning programs (ie Nero) have any utilities for this? Dooes something come with the media?

The lightscribe program is part of the new Nero software from what I understand, just do some searching in the program. The only thing else you need are Lightscribe blank CDR's because they are made with the coating for the label burn.

I used to have one, and hated it. It was loud, it took a long time, and it didn't do it very well. I guess that is what I get for getting the cheapest one I could find.

Per Nero you will need a patched version of Nero 6 or version 7 to get the lightscribe capabilities:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/LightScribe.html

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Burn_a...nt_Labels.html

Burning a Label using LightScribe
Direct Disc Labeling
LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling is an exciting disc labeling technology that enables you to burn silkscreen-quality labels directly on your CDs and DVDs providing easy to create professional quality no-hassle labels.

LightScribe technology requires three elements:
LightScribe-enabled optical disc drive
LightScribe-compatible media
Nero 6 Reloaded (Nero 6.6.0.8 or a later version installed)
Lightscribe Host Software (download of the latest version)
With LightScribe, you can burn your data, music or video onto a CD or DVD, then simply flip the disc over, put it back into the drive, and burn your newly created label design directly onto the disc.
