I have a question.

My friend brought over his computer, which has all new parts in it other then the CD drives, hard drive, and the PSU. He is getting a 4 beep code on his MSI motherboard, and I was wondering what that meant. Apparently, it is some kind of motherboard time clock not working, but my mom, my friend, and myself have no clue what that means. Anybody know? Thank you in advance.

well thats info that can only be found in the mobos manual

try taking the CMOS reset switch out for about 10 minutes and than put it back in..see if that helps.

also..try taking the battery out for 20-30 minutes.

make sure the cpu is seated and installed properly. Make sure the heatsink w/ thermal adhesive is properly installed.

make sure the rest of the components are also installed and configured properly

Could it possibly be the RAM? The motherboard manual said the same thing as my A+ book, so I am still confused...

*EDIT*
Also, could it be that the PSU is a 20 pin, but the MOBO is a 24?

Luckily, I had an extra 24 pin PSU laying around in my house. His computer is running now, but he has to reinstall windows since he has all new parts. Thanks 89macrunner for your help.

Oh yeah, the CPU is a 3800+ dual core.

no problem...

make sure your friend gets a good PSU.. I would get a 400 at the minimum..With a powerful graphics card...a few HDDs and a CD drive or two he will need it

Yeah, he now has a 420 Watt PSU, 3800+ CPU, some MSI Mobo (I can't remember off the top of my head) an 80 and a 120 gig hard drives, a 7300GS, a DVD drive, and a CD burner, and a partrich in a pear tree. Oh, and 1 GB of RAM
