How to clean your laptop?
#4
i wouldn't use paper towel.. but, a damp, lint free cloth. anyway, as long as it's just dust on the screen, I find that microfibre cleansers (same stuff used to clean a camera lens) work great.
NEVER, EVER use Windex!... When I was working at a computer store, a customer did, his screen looked like an aquarium afterwards. Fair warning.

This is what I use once a week on the laptop and my Dell 2005FPW

I use it with a microfiber towel, as they leave no scratches or lint.
These towels can be had in packs at Costco, Sams Club, Griot's.
Same type of towel that Griot's sells to wipe off wax with.

50/50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. Then use something cotton with the texture of a t-shirt to dip it in the mixture and wipe it off. Works really well, and I've always used that method to clean my screens.

Ruin a screen, hardly, scare you to the point of death and buying chemically inert cleaners yes. Stop by a computer store and touch different screens. Not all screens are made the same. There is a reason why some laptop manufacturers don't charge more than a grand for their computers; low quality components. If you bought a bargain computer, then yes, baby your screen. If you payed for quality, then don't worry as much. Technology has made things that have previously been a no-no ok. Using paper towel from your roadside restroom isn't the best idea, that stuff is just shy of 60 grit, but most good quality paper towels are super soft. Again, when you pay for quality . . .

There isn't really a screen protector for laptops. However, I did find one method that proved to be useful for when the lid is shut to prevent the oils on the keyboard from touching the screen. I found a thin slice of foam from WalMart that fit my 15" screen perfectly, and I'd always stick it in there before I closed the lid. It kept my screen pretty clean. I also don't tolerate others touching my screen. You touch my screen, you better be prepared to lose that finger.

Scotch brite pad and Ajax.
My wife uses pledges multi surface wipes. Safe for comp screens.
I always yell at her, but she says it's safe. So I just read the label. Guess she was right after all
