FTP Server

OK, so I'm really knew too this but I've downloaded Quick N Easy FTP Server, registered on www.no-ip.com and downloaded another program that will tell no-ip if my ip has changed and route accordingly....

So here is my ftp server so far, just hosting a couple pics I took the other day of random stuff, plus a house I'm currently building....let me know if you guys have any problems...

ftp://cynicx.myftp.org/

and everything is free....so we'll see how it works for awhile....

It works, but it is a little slow since we are pulling them right from your PC.
What is the speed of your down and up load?

Pretty good for all free apps.

Looks good. I want to try it myself. What's the "other program" that will tell you if your IP has changed?

well they took away my business DSL for some reason I cant figure out, so U/L is probably around 500-300k....or something, so its gonna be pretty slow. But since I'm only sharing pics too my friends it doesnt need to be fast

When you sign up at www.no-ip.com you get a confirmation email, but in the email is also a link to no-ip duc which is just a prog that runs in the tray and every 30 minutes checks your ip, and will update no-ip.com to the change.....

I like these guys for speed tests:

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

btw... be careful about what you have online. You're showing an MP3 right now that the RIAA could bust you for. In fact, the safest thing would be to turn off directory browsing.

It's a little daemon called No-IP DUC from here:

Nice little app... Only works with the No-Ip.com service though (which works well).

lol i got 570/253 on the speed test.....I've gotten much higher before, i dunno what the deal is now....

Oh and about the MP3, I just want to test the d/l speed and I needed a file so I just threw that in there....

I dont think its bad for what it is though....

I take it your DSL? it could just be load on the upstream routers. Try running the test at various times during the day.

Umm, I was talking about it being copyrighted material and thus being illegal to have up in a publicly accessible site like that.

I just signed up too, I also noticed they have a app for linux to keep the ip updated. I have wanted an extra pc for a linux server for a while now. This might just be a good reason. I might also setup a password protected ftp server so I can share some personal files/things with my friends in Holland. I really appreciate the heads up on this.
Thanks, Arjan

I just did the same thing, won't be online all the time until I get a extra dedicated machine. Mine is
ftp://yotatech:toyota@arjan.myftp.org . Username yotatech, password toyota. Let me know if it works.
