Firewire card?

So im trying to figure out why my computer will not let my sony handycam upload video all of a sudden..

I bought a new firewire cable but that made no difference, so I want to check the firewire card to see if that went kaput.

How would I go about checking to see if its working?

Non of my friends have video cameras (besides digital ones) so I can't hook theirs up..
Im really hoping this is whats wrong and that I didn't fry somthing inside the camera

I am in Mission, and have several computers with firewire cards etc. if you would like to test it.
On one of my sony handycams the firewire port is blown (my fault at the time), the 2nd one I bought has a flaky connection. They computers and laptop are all fine. I sometimes network my laptop through firewire to transfer a lot of data to my computer.

I broke down and got a new card, I installed it.. nothing.

Im pretty sure the port it blown in the camera, I think I might have plugged it in while it was on *doh*
Probibly gonna take it to sony, see if they can fix it.

Plugging it in while it's on shouldn't matter with firewire. I always do that.
Don't even think about going to sony, I phone and it will be $250 before they even look at it. They have a repair centre in Coquitlam, just off united boulevard.
I did manage to find the complete repair manual online for my trv-510.

I figured it's cheaper to buy a 2nd camera just for the firewire port.

I was thinking the same thing.
I have taking the camera into their repair place when it was malfunctioning under warrenty.
So I guess I should call them and see whats up.

I could probibly just find a cheap camera just to upload it into my computer right?

I wonder if somthing is wrong with my computer though..
I might have to stop by and test my camera out

Go to my computer and right click and bring up properties and go into hardware. Find the card under the list, uninstall it.

Windows should realize you did this and prompt you to reinstall it with a disc or use windows drivers on the system. Should work after that, if not thenthe card is toast or you have another issue.

Most firewire cards have standard drivers, and you'd probably hardly notice the install when you boot up the first time after installing the card
