Ok, I have an external USB hard drive. I want it to only be available to my user account, but nobody else. Is there any way to do this? I am running windows xp. Thanks!

You can also set up a user account and make yourself an admin, with a password, and block access to the drive for non-admin accounts, which is probably what Jim was trying to say.

 

I know how to create accounts, just cant figure out how to limit access to the external hard drive. I have looked under disk management, and disk quota.

 

You could right click the drive, select "Security" and remove "Everyone" from the list and add administrator or yourself with full control.

 

What 98 said, use share level security:

1.. Share the drive (right click, "Sharing & Security", Share this folder, accept defaults)
2. Remove the "Everyone" group from the Permissions button.
3. Add the different user accounts & set appropriate permissions.

 

thanks, ok now I have the drive shared, and the little hand is under the drive icon. How do I prevent other users from accessing the drive? I think i Have done this before, I just cant seem to find it
