Well...Merry Xmas!

And...Merry Xmas to myself, I got the 2005FPW from my dad. Just hooked it up...AMAZING! I love it!

Thanks to all that recommended this thing! I love it!

No need to even install any software, it figured it out all on its own...I figured I'd have to install some software or somethin to make it work.

Highly recommended monitor, haven't tested gaming or anything on it yet, I'll post up when I do!

One question for those with this LCD or some similar...the desktop is crystal clear and absolutely perfect but on the some DVD's, Armageddon in particular, some of the images seem distorted, like the far away images that would normally be in view and you could read the text if there was any are now kind of distorted and hard to read. And in some games, The Sims 2 in particular, some of the corners that were once round are now blocky and very polygonal...not sure if I just need to monkey with the settings or fix the resolution or something (its as high as it will go and still not big enough).

Thanks guys, any insight would be great!

Check this out
Unless yours says Dell 2005 FPW in there, you need to install the drivers from the CD.
It will allow you to run it at its native 1680x1050 res.
The reason mine does not say Dell in mine (it did at one time) is because I run multiple monitors.
The Dell and my 27" TV out in the living room.

I have no snafus with any of the game or vids I watch.
Make sure you have it set to the 1680x1050 setting.

There is another setting too done via the button on the monitor itself that scales down a game to fit the higher res.
Do not use it, let the game stretch to fill the screen.

Other than that, not sure why you are seeing this.

Also you can check this area out.
I think you mentioned you are running ATI drivers.
First bring up your vid properites as on the far left pic, then choose advanced to bring up the middle pic, then choose monitor in the tabbed list, then see if the Dell is listed in there or not.

If it is, then the 3rd pic will also show that you are running the Dell.
Also make sure you are running it at 60 hertz.
It must be to operate properly.

OK...here's the deal with the drivers...I hooked the monitor up and when I powered on the computer it worked right off the bat. I then ran Windows Update and it found a driver update for the monitor so I installed that, now it is labeled Dell 2005 FPW in both Display Props and Device Manager so as far as that goes, I think it's all set.

I checked and it is running at 60hz. This is weird, I mean everything else looks great its just certain images aren't quite as clear. It could just be the game itself, I haven't tried to run anything too graphics oriented yet, I will test out COD2 tonight and see how it does. If all else fails I can contact Dell and see what they recommend, or I can try reinstalling the driver from the CD this time versus letting Windows Update do it.

Thanks for the info Corey,

Fink

OK well I checked out all those windows that were in the link and it all looks fine, I checked the date on the driver and it's from 9/15/04, is that a recent enough driver? What date is yours?

Thanks again Corey!

They use some of the Dell 19" LCDs that Churnd has a picture of in some of the computer labs on campus. Most of the other monitors used around here are Dell 17" (mix of utlrasharp and older ones) and a few 15". I know of some labs in some back rooms that have the 19", so I have my favorite spot.

These Ultrasharp Dell 19"s are definately some nice monitors!

ZERO and I do mean ZERO lag or ghosting in fast paced first person shooters such as Unreal Tournament 2004.

If you watch Dells site, you can score it for $350 to $400.
Call them up to to negotiate a deal.
They love to deal to get your business.

The guts are made by LG, and the same as the Apple Cinema wide screen, only the Dell model gets a higher score.
I have the same its AWESOME
