It does seem fishy...
Maybe Norton is also reporting the file count for files within CAB, ZIP, or other archives.

Good call on the select-all trick, that will tell you how many files you really do have. (assuming you are showing hidden and system files)

Corey, all files on C: totaled 112,106. I just did the Complete Scan and All Files option with free AVG v.7 and show 75,245 scanned, leaving a 36,861 difference.

Jim, I'm not showing hidden files, mainly to try and stay out of trouble. Should I Show All for a more complete scan, or will AVG scan them anyway?

One possible explanation of the difference between AVG and NAV is how I have System Restore configured. I use the max available space, around 10% of the hard drive I think, and NAV might be scanning the restore points too.

Bob, on all of my PCs I always enable show "all files" and extensions.
Try it again after enabling them, and see what happens.

Corey, I made the "show all files" change and was about to scan when I double checked the Test Center/Tests/Complete Test Settings. The "Scan All" was unchecked, so I enabled that. The "Scan All" I enabled earlier was in the Control Center/Resident Shield/Properties area. Sorry about the confusion.

I emptied Recycle Bin, rebooted and did a Complete Test/Scan Computer and came up with 227,124 files scanned (and no virii). Much better! In fact more files than are even on C:, so maybe it's something to do with System Restore. Thanks for the "Scan All" tip.

Bob, I think NAV is lying to you.
305K files?
Go into your Explorer and highlight all of your files and do a right click on them to add them all up.
Also make sure you run the full test of AVG, and not the quick scan.

As you can see in the next photo, AVG scanned 64,324 files.

I did a props on my C drive, and I have a total of 66,451 files.
That leaves 2,127 files that AVG did not touch, and that could be files in the trash, and files in the System Restore.

I would add up all of your files again in Explorer, then run your full test, then subtract how many AVG left alone.

I am willing to bet that NAV is not being truthful with you.
You could not pay me to put any Norton software on my PC, as I have personally seen it fubar up many a PC.

I am curious to your total files on your PC verses what the full scan with AVG is.
Let us know.
Hey now!...I have NAV and that means everyone else should have NAV too right?...hehehe

In all seriousness what I said IS true, even though I seriously doubt something is actuate with there being 305k files.....something isnt adding up.....
