YOTA CB Channel
Is there a recognized YOTA channel? If not, I wish there was. Recently while driving, I saw a sweet black 1st gen 4Runner with lots of custom bits & pieces. He and I both had the same 4ft firestick waggling around above our rigs. We both exchanged an aggressive wave and fixed glance at each others rigs. I could have talked to that guy for hours. Yes, my cb scans, but usually locks in to some redneck banter. It would be nice to quickly flip to channel X and recognize the fellow YOTA. In another example, while driving on the interstate, I saw a new Tundra with a custom rack and cab over ARB tent, and lots of extras. Again, I wanted to know a bit more. Did you make that? Where do you wheel? Let's plan a trip. Channel X would have been useful. Some of you may already have this. If so, go national with it. Obviously, 9 & 19 are already spoken for. I realize not everybody is on yotatech, and I rarely peruse other forums, but I bet it would catch on as common knowledge.
I propose this based upon a largely apathetic wheeling community in this area. Our recent meet and greet produced 4 rigs. Sad, since I see so many on the road. What say you?

I am definitely in favor, this happens to me all the time. I pass someone with a sweet rig and want to talk to them and ask them about their rig and talk Yotas but all I am able to do is nod, wave, and mouth "nice rig". I have heard from a couple guys that channel 16 is the off-road channel. Hint: 4X4=16

I agree - it would be cool to pick one and go with it - there is a local FJ forum here and they claim channel 16 as their own. would make meet ups easier too so everyone could start communicating before arriving.

My buddies and I always used channel 4. Most of us drove yotas, but there were a few samurais, a datsun, 2 nissans, and a trooper. We kept it foreign only though. I would love to get a national recognized channel (even unofficially), as I'm planning on moving to another state this summer.

16 and 4 would be bad choices as well as 20, and here is why...
16 is used by Swift and UPS, 4 by Estes, R&L Carriers. The only reason 20 is a bad choice is because of bleed over from 19 by radios such as my Galaxy with linears. I drive a truck for a living, and a good cb is golden on the road. In my Kenworth I run a Galaxy DX 949 w/ a Dave 1 driving 4pill linear through twin 1500watt oil cooled Ranger 60" steels. So if you want a neutral channel, try 6... 6 beers, 6 letters... T O Y O T A. I can tell you from 14 years on the interstates, common channels used are 1,4,9,11,16,17,19,21,29,40.

Everyone round these parts just uses channel 4, if its too busy, we usually go to 7. Dont know why, just happens that way.

I think channel 6 is a great idea for every reason stated - lets make it so!

I think channel use varies by location. Around here (NorCal), 17 is sort of the truckers channel along 101 and I5.
My club normally uses channel 4 on runs and that seems to be the channel used by the loggers and other forest service-type road users in the areas we wheel most. And most of my club drives those 4-letter-word vehicles, so maybe that is why we use 4
So if driving by myself on the highway, I'll be on 17 to pick up traffic conditions from the trucks.
Sometimes, we'll also use the day of the month as the channel.

Must be local to your area... 4 is used often by companies because its a flat frequency, so even a store bought never tuned or peaked radio with a high swr(standing wave ratio) can reach pretty far...
Here is a mhz list...

ch 6 (depending on where you are and what time of day you key up on) can get pretty congested with guys shooting skip.
lots of the guys that run thousands of watts (and sometimes tens of thousands) play on the bowl channel (or super bowl channel), and when the skip is rolling, you can hardly even talk locally on it (unless you guys are literally in a caravan).
if you live in an area where ch 6 is used heavily for skip talking, you might want to look at another channel.
