How to put AutoRouting on your GPS...
Hey guys, I thought this would be some sweet information for you. It took me a long time to figure this out on my own, and now I realize how easy it is, I wish someone would have told me !
Anyways, I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx. It is compatible with Mapsource, and is also able to do Auto Routing. However, to get Auto Routing (Basically you punch in an address and it tells you turn by turn to get there...) you need to buy a $150+ program (City Navigator). Metroguide is a bit cheaper but, you cannot do stand alone Auto-Routing in your GPS, only on your PC!!! Well, whats the point of THAT? (Unless you are pre-planning everything).
So anyways, I found this dandy little program: img2gps, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/. In Metroguide, (you have to buy it, or find it other ways...*wink,wink*), you can select the maps you want, save them to your PC, then use this utility to transfer the saved maps PLUS all the auto routing information!! The auto-routing information is not transfered with MapSource alone!
Anyways, I am more than stoked to have this working. I got this GPS for wheeling, camping, hiking, etc... but, now it is a full-blown City Navigator! I can pick a place of interest and can tell me the exact streets to take to find it.
