Just a thought spend the money and find the mounting position for a corba 29 ltd theres so many mods that you can make to it to make it a very very nice radio that will talk for many miles side channels for when theres to many people on one channel and i would use a wilson 5 foot top load antenna looks same as firestick but a better antenna by far should be about the same price too. You will be best to go with 18 ft. co axel but just remember to say with 3 ft. incerments i.e. 3,6,9,12,15,18 18 being the best for setting swr

Ya'll are finding decent prices on the 18, but none are better than the one I found-- $49.99 at the local WalMart... Check 'em out before you sign on the line...

Looked at Wal-Mart but they didn't have it and couldn't order it I'm sure I could have gone to somebody with a cool colored vest on and checked to be sure the dude was right but I've tried to order stuff from Wal-Mart before...not the best place to do so.

Okay...so 18 feet of coax cable, I assume that if I can make CAT5 cable I can make coax cable right?

Thanks for the tips guys, the more information you guys give me the better I'll be so keep it all comin.

It is not too hard to make coax at all. If you have a good-sized soldering iron/gun, you may want to get the solder-on ones rather than the crimp-on ones. As long as you're careful to separate the braids from the inner strand so you don't get a short and don't get too crazy with the solder, you'll be okay. The solder-on connectors are generally a little larger and stronger, so they'll make a more secure connection.

The instructions are generally right on the package and self-explanatory (usually have pictures - I like pictures). If not, there are tons of places on the web with equally good, if not more so, instructions.

And just a thought - you may want to buy more than one package of connectors (usually two in a pack) in case of mistakes for your first attempt.

Hope this helps,

Merlin

I am trying to finalize my order for all of the mounting hardware that I will need and am having a hard time with a few things.

Below is a link to the mount that I am going to get:
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...unt-p-317.html

Here is the antenna that I am going to get:
http://www.walcottcb.com/product_info.php?products_id=901{2}44

My question is?what spring should I get? There are quite a few options, I want the one that will be the strongest and provide the most benefit.

Below is a list of links of all of the springs they carry at www.walcottcb.com I am assuming I need the Heavy Duty spring with the screw-on connection but I don't want to order all of this stuff and then get stuck with no spring...might as well do it right the first time.

SS3H - Stainless Steel Spring Item #: SS3H
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...ing-p-585.html

SS3M - Stainless Steel Spring Item #: SS3M
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...ing-p-584.html

SS34AH Combo. Heavy Duty "SS" Spring & Stud Mount Item #: SS34AH
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...unt-p-824.html

SS34AM Combo. Medium Duty "SS" Spring & Stud Mount Item #: SS34AM
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...unt-p-823.html

SS34H Combo. Heavy Duty "SS" Spring & Stud Mount Item #: SS34H
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...unt-p-826.html

SS34M Combo. Medium Duty "SS" Spring & Stud Mount Item #: SS34M
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...unt-p-825.html

SS3H - Stainless Steel Spring Item #: SS3H
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...ing-p-585.html

SS3M - Stainless Steel Spring Item #: SS3M
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ss...ing-p-584.html

Thanks guys!

Fink

an fyi in putting it... be prepared to cut your dash trim a fair amount.

also you may have to move some wiring.

my HU, sub and speaker wiring all hung down and in the way, so a majority of it had to be pushed to the upper right in order to get the cb in as far as it is.

also i ran new coax, and to do this, i removed the weatherstripping, resealed, then popped off the drivers side hatch wall (just popped around 5 snaps out), then removed the cargo cover holder (both the one behind the rear seats and the one at the very back of the truck), then i guided the wire using these openings, then led it down through the drivers side thresholds, then went directly under the carpet in front of the drivers seat and to the cb unit.

whew.

it was kinda a bitch but it was better than removing all the panels again.

I ordered the SS3H just the other day as the SS3M is only rated for 2 to 3 foot antennas. I'm using a 4 foot Firestik II so I went with the heavier spring. I know that some guys have complained that with the medium spring, the antenna sways quite a bit and depending on where you mount the antenna it could hit your truck.
