CB Gurus- Radio Shot?

Okay, so I just finished up installing my CB Radio. The unit is a Uniden Pro 520XL. Anyway, my SWR meter has gone belly-up on me but the whole setup as-is was tuned in my old truck, so it can't be that far out. Anyway, sometimes it works OK. Its not that great, but I can usually carry on a conversation if I have line of sight. The problem is occassionally (now most of the time) I will hit the button and the "TX" will light up, but none of the bars light up telling me my transmission strength. I do not get out at all like this. It did this a couple times in my old truck but I just brushed it off.

Anyway, the radio's pretty old and has been in like 6 different rigs so it's got every excuse to quit working. But I just want to see if anybody has any ideas. I've checked all the connections and wires.

dont use that radio till you get your SWR's checked, if they are real high, they could kill your radio. perhaps what did your old one in ?
