CB antenna quick disconnect and spring question

I ordered my Firestik II and Firestick door jamb mount and spring from walcott CB the other day. when i ordered it, i asked about a quick disconnect and the guy said he didn't recommend it paired with a spring. I didn't ask any more and he didn't elaborate on it. I was thinking last nite as i mounted the mount in my rear hatch that i wanted a quick disconnect. I don't see why it would be a bad idea to mount the spring, then the quick disconnect and then the antenna. The disconnect wouldn't have the stress of the spring on it if i mount it about the spring, would it? Any thoughts are appreciated. thanks in advance.

I have the setup you are describing. The first time out the pin that holds the disco together fell out and I almost lost the antenna. I am not sure if this was caused by the spring.

I fixed it by drilling a hole through the disco and now I use a small bolt and wingnut.

thanks Marc. I decided to bail on it. i was talking to some ne4roc guys and they said i didn't need it. I just wanted it so i could get into my trunk, but they said the antenna doesn't have to be removed to get in there.

this is a cocuple days old... but my old explroer had a quick release above the spring mounted to my roof rack cross bar... never had any problems with it liek that, and i never had any breakage issues... sometimes the antenna would hit things and lay flat and the quick release and the spring were always fine

But were you wheeling that truck? I know my antenna takes some serious abuse off road, I figure, even without the disconnect you can get it off pretty quickly with a wrench. Better safe than sorry.
