How much are you looking to spend on a sub? Also are you going to use the same amp that you had on your other subs? If so what's the amp rated at rms and at what ohm load? These answers are important to make sure that you get a sub that will be properly powered.

Alumapro is good. Very good bass and quality, and it just require 150rms to run it.

Talk to BumpinYota aboot (look I'm Canadian!) this. He knows his stuff. Rockford Fosgate(sp) makes some nice ones. I hate my Sony's. The cone on one of em cracked big time to I used some 350 magnum duct tape and some hot glue (on the back) till I get the $$ for some new ones. It works better than I thought it would too.

I run one JL 12W3V2 off of a JL 500/1 amp and it pounds hard. I had three JL 10W3's and of course it hit a lot harder, but those days are over and the 12W3 is more than enough for my taste. To get the best sound make sure you runa an amp to your mids and highs, you'll be amazed at the sound difference.

There are many types of JL's. If you are looking for a clean crisp sound, i woud go with 2-12 jl W3. For really really loud bass you could go with the W-W7. it also matters about what kind of box you have them installed in and how much juice you're running to them. Also, your stereo won't sound good without components. JL's are definately a lot more $$$ but you get what you pay for. They are definately a good investement. I dont like to listen to my music really loud, i just like the overall full sound. www.jlaudio.com

I just got 2 Memphis 12's and those things make my ears pop theres so much pressure...my buddy has one 12" Memphis with a 600W amp and it hits pretty hard, obviously not as loud as mine but it would definately be enough for my taste. I usually don't even have my subs turned up all the way on the headunit, and now that I think about it, I'm not even sure the amp is up all the way...

If you wanna spend some more money and get a REALLY nice sub....go with a 12" Kicker Solo-Baric L7, holy mother, those are NICE. My buddy has 3 15" L7's and he has had to replace his back glass twice...needless to say he's got plexiglass now...whew, some serious air goin on there man!

I have a JL-Audio 12w7(prowedge) I am running it off of a JL 500/1 (underpowered) untill I can get 1000/1. I got a once and a lifetime deal on it...but normally a setup like mine would cost well over 1k. The sound quality is excellent and the bass is crazy for just one sub. Also, it is very easy for me to just pull the box out (80-90lbs, but compact) and put it up when I need room for gear . I would recommend it if you can afford it or get a steal like I did, otherwise there are many speakers that can come close to the performance for less $ (It all depends on if you want sound quality, bass, or a mix). I personally would shy away from anything that you can get at circuit city or simular stores (from my expereince)...go to a pro shop.

A lot of people on here have infinity bass-links and seem to be very pleased. Yet, the bass will be mild at best (much better than factory though)...like I said it is all in what you want.

i currenty have a 500/1 hooked up to an old pair of 12w3's (not w3v2's) there pretty old and its time for me to get a upgrade. i wanna get exatcly what you have but im worryed about my stock door speakers being loud enough. i dont want the w7 to over take them and not be able to hear my door speakers/tweets... i also dont have the $$$ to upgrade them. that would be a tone of money. iv been thinking about selling my 2 w3's with the box and getting the 1 w7.. then save like you are to get the 1000/1. I also still have the stock radio installed. What should i do about this? is the bass loud with just the 500/1 to the w7? how much did you get your w7 for? i play my music as loud as it can go with out distorting them speakers and i definialy dont want to turn down the amp to much cuz thats basicly a waste of money and power the sub could produce. im just really shakey on the situation and dont want to end up with a TONE of bass and cant hear my stock speakers (99 4runner). THANX.

Also ID GO WITH JL ALL THE WAY!!! although i heard my bosses new MTX 12 9500 and it hit hard.

Dont go with a Kicker solo if you want really good SQ. I have run 2 12s and I now have 2 15s but Im going for dB. I have just purchased 2 mtx thunder 9500 10s that I mounted in front of my other sub box, then I just added two kicker resolution mid bass 8s under the front seats.

In my truck, two old MTX Blue Thunders that I have had forever powered by an MTX 500 at 2 ohms, I forget the model. It is in a bandpass box and booms, but is not too sharp. I am toying with building a new sealed box for either one or two and getting room for a second battery back there.

In my bro's 97, 12" Eclipse 8700, sealed box, Memphis 500 at 2 ohms. It slams. Really tight bass, the kind that shoots needles. His sounds way better with a variety of music than mine.

Look at the MTX 8000 or competition stuff, really sounded great and price was decent when I checked.

I have never used JL stuff.

Another reply for JL.
I am running two 6.5" component Infinity Reference speakers in the front doors, and one JL W6 15" in the rear.

That's all the sound you need with right ampage.
I run two amps, the bass one is an old school Rockford 500a2 bridged mono into the sub.

That sub can get mighty loud and still be clear.
Loud enough to make it feel like my seats are moving in the tracks, and to cause chest thumping.

JL makes very nice subs, and worth the $$$.

I am running 2 Kenwood 10 inch subs powered by a Fosgate 900 watt amp and they sound pretty darn good. They dont hit as hard as a solobaric or anything but they will hit pretty d@Mm hard.

Yes, the w7 can and does overpower my factory speakers and I still have the factory headunit which makes things even worse...yet it is still head and shoulders above what I was used to. I will upgrade them as soon as I can $$$ you know.. The 500/1 actually puts out around 654 or something like that, so you can DEFINATELY hear it. I have to keep the damn thing turned down most of the time. Most of the time you don't want to run this thing on full blast because you would lose hearing very quick. The 1000/1 would make a difference, but to really see what this sub could do I would get rid of the sealed box-switch to a custom big slot-ported box and run 1500watts to it. (This would also mean that I would need high amp alt , because these beasts are powerhungry) I mean, I had 2 12-inch he2 fosgates and this setup is louder. I got the setup for $650 total, with wires and install. Granted, that is more than some would pay, but I am really into music and I could turn around and sell that puppy and turn a profit. I feel that I got my $$$ worth.

JL- is great, but there are still many other great companies. Next would be Eclipse subs or Memphis, they are excellent.

---If I was shopping though, I would get one or 2 JL-12w6's...more economical and very close to the 12w7.

Hey Doink, I could probably hook you up with a decent deal on 2 JL10s in a bandpass box... Since you live in the Atlanta area you can just pick them up... I'd probably let this go for about $150, and of course I'll let you audition them. Here is a pic.

If you want crazy bass with good sound quality check out the Adire Brahma, RE XXX, or the ID MAX. All of those will out hit anything listed while still maintaining good sound quality(except maybe the W7, but they're also much cheaper than it too).

I may be buying the Brahma soon. I'm in the same boat as you, I need to keep my space back there. The recommended box size is .7-1.5 cubic feet sealed. I don't think that is too big. Hope this helped.

Yes, yes, yes... I'm definately in love with my brahmas... They are by far the best subs I have heard. Currently in a sealed enclosure made by subzero, very high quality box and specifically made for the brahma. 1.25 cubes per 12" brahma. I'm going to build a ported box this summer for them 2.25 cubes at 30hz, should be fun. Pics:
