I have ordered my stuff from crutchfield (prices were great compared to ebay!) I decided against the 420... I got...

Alpine CDA-9830 CD/MP3/WMA Receiver $249.99
Receiver Kit 081TOYPOC Free
Receiver Harness 120701761 Free
Monster Cable AICIP-7 7ft. 1/8" Stereo Mini Plug to RCA $29.99
Alpine KCA-121B Male Right Angle Ai-Net to Female RCA Ca $14.99
Crutchfield MasterSheet Instructions Free
Crutchfield Guide Car Stereo Installation Free

Well, this is what I need (I found out the 9815 wouldn't fit). Thanks again for all the input!

My deck (Alpine CDA-9833) would have cost $450 from Crutchfield and I got it shipped for $331 on-line but you look like you scored a deal with the receiver and harness kit since that on-line place would have only saved you $25 on your 9830.

ouch 29.99 for a mini plug to rca cable?.... congrats on the purchase, i have always loved the alpine head units. you wont be disappointed. other than the cable it sounds like a good deal since you got the kit and harness free.

Well, the cable wasn't any more than at my local bestbuy and just as much as ebay with shipping (since I get free shipping at Crutchfield). And it is much faster than ebay... shipped today and delivered in 2-3 days.

Next is new subs and an amp. I'm thinking JL subs brandwise..

Hey! Thanks a lot for posting this, the wife just got a mini & we were thinking this looked like the best solution, but were concerned about comments that FM transmitters weren't that great. This will work awesome & we can move it from her mini cooper to my 4runner easily.

The reason an FM signal isn't that great is because you are taking a digital source and taking a step backward and reducing it to a radio signal.

I agree..but my comment refers to the static I was getting and constantly having to change channels..

Yeah, I can live with radio quality, as long as it's at least that. Plus it acts as a holder, charger, and fm transmitter & we can move it from car to car. Perfect solution for us, thanks for posting up your review Sil!

Just wanted to post a follow up on this, we got ours & I'd say the quality is somewhere between our strongest radio station & the cd player. Haven't used it a lot yet, but we are VERY happy with this.
