Weird stereo problem???

My Daughters has a 95 4runner, it had a fairly nice stereo in it when we bought it, but the CD player didn't work the rear speakers. The rear speakers worked with the radio though! So, I removed the stereo from her old car(which we where selling)and put it in the 4runner. Guess what the rear speakers still don't work in CD mode, just on the tuner mode. All the wires at the head unit are connected, and if the speakers work in tuner mode, than they are connected! So is there some hidden something I'm not aware of or what???? Help please(I have a 18yrs old girl nagging me!!)!!!!

I might be mistaken but your factory radio harness has two plugs, one of them connected to the factory head unit and the other connected to an external amp which powers the factory rear speakers. Can you verify that the 2nd radio harness speaker wires are connected to the aftermarket radio harness?

I'm not sure why the rears only work in radio mode but double-checking the wiring might be worth investigating.

Might have to run new wires to the rear speakers.

with the power antenna powered up this will also power the amp for the rear speakers. so just use the remote turn on instead of the power antenna output and all will be fine. other than your antenna being up all the time

yep, pretty sure you are on the right track here... further elaboration

Review this document, specifically pg 9/10
http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/869017.pdf

personally,, I believe that if you have an aftermarket radio, you should NEVER use the stock amplifiers, as they are usually lower wattage output, and do not like the input from the new radio, furthermore, those nice aftermarket wiring harnesses do not usually snap on to wires leading TO the amplifier, but to the wires that the amplifier connects to, to go to speakers. Meaning that the stock amp should always be removed...

either way, the link to installdr.com is insightful and explains it well, in addition to a diagram of harness pins.

Wow, sorry to bump this up but I just bought a 95 with an aftermarket cd player and I was having the same problem. I plan on digging into it this weekend although I think the front speakers by themselves sound better then the front and rear together.

I plan on replacing all of the speakers with components at some point and throwing a small sub in the xtra cab. Amp under the passenger seat and XM commander in the storage pocket.
