Upgrading Speakers
Hey everyone, I was suggested to come to these forums to get some information on upgrading the audio system in my truck. I have a standard '89 pickup, and was wondering what to look into for new speakers, amp, etc. It would be fine to just keep the head unit, as I'm using my iPod to listen to music, and don't need a CD player or anything. I'm willing to spend around 250-300 dollars. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hey Radio, I don't know what to suggest you get in the way of speakers and an amp, but I'm sure some of the guys here will be glad to help. On your $250 to $300 budget, I'm sure you'll find a nice set of speakers for your dash, doors and an under or behind the seat sub. Once you have that figured out, it should be pretty easy to match an amp to your speakers.
Good luck bud!

I think all your pickup has is 4" speakers in the dash. You can upgrade those if you want. To keep your budget in line I would find a cd headunit for around $150. You should be able to get something decent with an ipod input for about that much. Install is fairly straight forward if you're a bit mechanically inclined. Next step would be a sub. I recently found that walmart sells a lower grade amplified bazooka 8" bass tube for around $99. Not gonna win any contests with this, but it should provide the low end those 4" speakers are lacking. I would not recommend running aftermarket speakers off a factory deck. Good luck.
