Sub box ideas?
Hey i got a 1992 4runner and i'm looking for some ideas for my sub box. I have a 10" sony xplod. I want it to be about 1 cubic foot for volume. I was going to go between the wheelwells right behind the rear seat, but that might be just in the way. if anyone has any ideas on a box for the side of the rear or any other good ideas for a good box design i would appreciate it
or just say what you have done... oh and pictures are always awesome too! thanks a lot

hmmm.... that's a pretty interesting sub box... but i want to make it out of mdf probably... I got an idea of one that goes over the wheel well so i might just go with it... thanks

thanks for those... some of them look pretty good. i got an idea from some of those for the one i want to build. does anyone know off hand about the angle of the back seat in the 92 4runner? i want it to match the back seat. thanks... if not i can try and figure it out. thanks

It's not a sub box persay but it works just the same and you don't lose any room in the storage area and you can either use the stock storage box and line it or do like I did and build a 3/4 mfd box to replace the stock storage box and put it in place of the stock one.
I have made mine .75 cu.ft.air space for both of the speakers and they sound pretty damn good , I will be doing this again to my 93 with the same system set up in it as this one but this time I will be adding a extra port on each side for the extra pump of bass not that this set up don't pump as it is but just to hear how different they will sound with the exact same sound system in them.
First set up in my 90 4runner non ported

that's a cool idea... i've seen it done a couple of times, but i want the box to be a bit bigger so i'll probably go behind the seat. but i'll try and put my amp into one of those panels probably. thanks

somethings messed up there.. lol. ya i think i know what i want to do. but i do need to know the angle of the rear seat. i'm not very good at figuring that out, so does any one know that from their builds? thanks

Are you still running this setup ? Still like it ? Where did you mount your amp(s) ? I have the older Sony Xplod 10" box in mine with both amps mounted on the box. I like to camp and sleep in the runner and would love to dump the Xplod box and hide the damn amps. Is that box ported and what's the aprox cu.ft ?

the Cu Ft rating for the sub should be listed on the manufactures website.

I like that, but I have a pickup so it won't work for me, but i do have a Couple of questions
1. how do you figure the amount of space the speaker needs inside the box?
The specifications will come with the woofer. the hard part is finding the displacement of the box itself
2. Where do you get the little wooden rings to bolt the speaker to?
Those wooden ring are home made with a router and a jig. you can also order them pre-made on the internet. Here is a great site to teach the basics of box building Check out http://www.selectproducts.com or http://www.eliteinstallersupply.com/ for all your speaker car audio supplies, they have your MDF rings in all shapes and sizes.
3. How hard was it to make that box?
If it is your first time using fiberglass then conformed rounded edges are for you the framing in the box I built was pretty advanced and quite challenging. If you were to remove the amp rack and storage compartment I added to the design, it wouldn't be that difficult to re-create. Try following the tutorial chris made here This should at least show you what goes into the project. It is only a few hundred dollars in material, but if it is your first time the learning curve is pretty steep.

Okay, wow alot more goes into this than I thought, I'm still going to attempt something similar, thanks for all the great info and links kyrpto kid!

Two questions for you as well, one why do you and practically everyone else on this site call those old fuel cans Jerry cans, and what is the matting, is that a sound dedener, to keep the metal from rattling or something?

too all, sorry for all the newb questions, but I pretty much am a newb. I wired the system that's in my truck now myself, but it was all pre put together stuff, and that's about the extent of my knowledge.
I have another question for you all, Is $570 a good buy for (all of this is kenwood) 2-12" subs, 2-4" 4way speakers,2-6" speakers, a 2channel 1000w amp, the wiring kit for said amp, and 2 tweeters?
I am wanting to build a box in te back of my cab for the subs, and amp, put the 4s in stock location, make a box for the door panels for the 6s, and the tweeters I'm not sure about yet.
