Stereo swap help?

Hey well i had a chance to take out my old panasonic head unit. Since i got a new runner. It seems the oem cd player stereo unit takes two bays. Instead of one because my 4runner base had the headunit on top and a pocket on the bottom bay?. Is there any way around this or do i need to find a pocket?

Well guys. Ive bought the pocket. Damn Longo Toyota freakin stealer charged me $14 for a pocket. Man. I rather get a big sticker and cover it. But yeah i bought it. Firt thing i noticed on the 00" the wiring harness is different compared to the 98. Cuz i still have the metra harness still attached to the HU. So i figured now yank off the harness and start splicing into the wires in the car. After 5 hours of work in the sun. And looking at the 12volt.com and TIS for a wiring diagram im still wondering what the hell. I got it wire up. But im getting a LOUD HISS and when i turn it to volume 4 its freaking loud, and another problem im getting is when i turn on my headlights. i get a loud DUHHHHHHHHH through the speakers! SO im wondering what in the world is going on.

It may just behoove you to go down to Circuit City or Best Buy or wherever and get a wiring harness for your new truck. I know that you have a lot of time invested, but in the long run it should take care of all of these mystery sounds. Good luck either way.

Why in God's name did you hack up the OEM wiring harness???

I've seen more hack jobs done to the OEM wiring harness cause system wide problems in cars, than ANY other problem. Saving 2 dollars by skimping on the harness is a BIG mistake.........

I mean no offense, but DUDE....BUY a harness and try repair the damage by resoldering the OEM harnes plug back on, then hit each wire with shrink wrap, then electrical tape each wire....

I had the exact same issue when I got the Metra harness and tried to put in my new head unit. I forgot about the amp and was really pissed when I hooked the Metra up to the wiring harness from the HU. After some cursing and thoughts of cutting up the wiring harness, some synaps fired and I remembered somebody's write up and removed the amp. Glad to see you got it all hooked up.

I got all of my Blaupunkt components installed last night. 6.75" in the front and 5.25 in the rear. Front tweeters fit well in the factory position. Rears were placed 4" above the mids. I painted the tweeter surrounds with a silver paint to try to match the SE silver trim. It's a bit off, but good enough for me (they're far enough from any of the OEM trim to really notice). They sound awesome and look great. Took a while, but I'm happy to have them in.

I built adapters for my 5.25" Blaupunkts out of plywood just last night (using somebody's template--I found it somewhere on here, I think). Didn't take very much time and they worked well.

Also to help your up front sound, I highly suggest a set of custom kickpanels. They are as hard to make as you want them to be....
