Help me pick out my sound system!

Also, if you can find a seller with an excellent rating on eBay, you can pick up used or new in opened box audio equipment for cheap. My brother got a decent setup for pretty cheap, and with good brands in good condition. Just make sure the seller has an excellent rating so you won't be buying broken stuff.
I can vouch that I'm not overly impressed with the pioneer deh6800mp. I got that for my b day in 06-07. It was pretty cool until the knob( back when pioneer was obsessed with the big all controlling knob) broke off. I could still controll it but just with the little peg. Then last year, it just quit.

This is where I'm in my element
I'd say $250 is shy for even a pair of subs, not to mention the box, the amp, the wiring, the HU, and the Front Stage. As long as you aren't expecting a miracle for $250 you can get some cheap stuff and call it a day.
I'm a fan of Rockford, JBL, MB Quart, JL, Dynaudio, Focal, CDT, Alpine, Clarion Pro - you know - the "LC Engineering" of the Car Audio World. Would you put an AutoZone thermostat in your Toy? Then why put the equivalent audio gear in it?
Save up a bit more and do it right. Do your research and buy wisely. I'm in your same boat when it comes to choosing a motor to put in my 87 4Runner (I don't have any clue what will fit and what will work best with which transmission, etc) - and I'm going to have to do my own research, read hundreds of posts to sift through the data, and learn by doing as I've quickly found out on this very forum
. Get your reading glasses on and start reading hundreds of threads at the Car Audio forums
Starting from scratch at ANYTHING ain't easy - so take your time and do your legwork...
