my friend went with some Alpine type-R speakrs from best buy. he got the service plan that allows him to replaces the speakers even if he blows them. Alpine is decent from best buy.

Honestly I wouldnt get anything from BB including alpine as far as decks. The new ones just look horrid and cheap to me. I own a CDA 9835 (the 600 dollar deck - no I didnt pay that) and even it pisses me off from time to time. Pioneer really kicked some ass this year with the DEHP7700mp and the DEHMP80. We havent had a single one come back, but we have had panasonics, sonys, JVCs, and Alpines back in droves...

If BB carries Pioneer, go that route. I believe its the DEH p3700mp that is marked at 149.99 at both CC and BB, hwoever CC has a deal going on the web for it and all those above it for a good deal. I think online CC had the 3700 for 137 and the 4700 for 154 and change.

I'll chime in for BB

The prices Bumpin'Yota is posting is actually pretty good. CC has us beat on those right now, correct me if I'm wrong though, those are web only prices? We have not seen a single deck come back from alpine yet (we also just picked up the alpine brand). We have seen some DOA from our install bay but that has no effect on the end user.

Pioneer in my opinion has always been good, and compared to alpine, currenlty is a slightly better product. Remember that the PSP that BB sells is a "Product Service Plan" and does not guarantee that the unit will be replaced. We have to send them to our Service Centers, usually for my store 2-3 weeks, No loaner HU programs either.

The PSP is a good deal because aslong as there is no real physical abuse/damage/moisture you're covered for like 3 years and in some cases 4. We also have a "No Lemon" policy that after 4 repairs we exchange it for you with a new unit in store.

I picked up a Clarion DB355MP for $100 here in Houston. Its not a bad unit at all, since I just needed a decent radio with MP3 playback.

You could also check out the Alpine CDE-9843. I think its $150 at crutchfield.com. A friend of mine just installed that in his corolla, and it does the job very well.

50x4 from almost any headunit won't mean very much. Your speakers will probably never see anymore than 12watts per channel.

Very very true!

Cacattack - honestly if you like great sounding tunes get yourself a small 4 channel. 25x4 from a 4 channel will sound LIGHTYEARS ahead of a deck's 50x4 and I can garuntee you that.

hehehe yup web only prices, typically our store will match the price and give the free install with it. (Normally they dont come with free install on the web.) Most CC stores that I know of will match their own webpage pricing as well.

Our warrenty is the same - repaired not replaced and gone for 2-3 weeks with no loaner.

The reason that surprises most people is because of how the industry likes to rate their deck's output. Usually they just list peak power, which is the most power the little internal amp will produce when lightning strikes just before it blows up. If you were to look at the RMS figures, which are much closer to real life numbers, a much different tale would be told. Typically your 50x4 decks will do between 18 and 22 watts rms into a dummy load, meaning you speakers will never see even that small amount. (A speaker isn't a dummy load like a resister, but rather a reactive device that fights the amp, so some of that 18-22 watts is lost in impeadance rise vs frequency.) So realistically that 50x4 deck you are looking at will put out about 12-15 watts tops real world power. (Which is lightyears ahead of industry OEM unit's 2-3 watts.)

A small 4 channel amp however is USUALLY rated in RMS units. Take the old school Rockford Fosgate RF 100G2 [2 channel amp.] (Not the new bs amps that list their peak power on the heatsinks....uggg) It's factory rating is to do 25 watts rms x 2 into a 4ohm load. Or if you bridged it into 4ohm mono it would do 100 watts rms. Well with it being a separate amp, much much better parts can be used and typically when this is done a better amp is produced that will actually exceed it's power rating. My 100G2 was doing 38 watts rms x 2 into 4ohms. Again figuring the speaker fighting the amp it should be seeing about 28 to 30 watts rms real world power. The same concepts hold true for a 4channel.

You definately need a separate amp to power the subs too. Try to meet or slightly exceed the rms rating on the subs. You can exceed the power rating by up to 50% with no real ill effects most of the time. Class D amps are better for your yota's electrical system from an efficiency standpoint. However 2 and 4 channel amps can also be used to push subs.

To be honest with you...I used to be a complete Alpine fan for headunits, I would get nothing but Alpine headunits and I sweared by them...but since we stopped carrying them at work...I went with the Pioneer DEHMP80 (well over $150), Pioneer is awesome! Haven't had a single problem with the unit since I've gotten it and it looks bada$$!

I'm sure that Pioneer has something to offer in the <$150 category!

Good luck with your search, just thought I'd chime in!

I have an Alpine CDA-9833, and its not a bad headunit. It doesn't have all the cool graphics and stuff other headunits have, but if I wanted that then I would have purchased a TV instead. I have no real gripes about it, other than it looks like every other damn Alpine out there.

[hijack on] I've got that same HU, do you ever have any problems with skipping or long pauses when playing MP3s? Also, have you ever used much of the I-personalize stuff?

Cacattack....give us your budget and I promise you we will give you some great ideas on what to use. That is always the main factor in building a system to me...fit the budget.

your exactly right

i was thinking $150 for the head unit. $100-150 for the sub/subs. and i guess another $150-200 for the other speakers. total comes out to be... $350-500

Deck

Pioneer DEHP3700MP......149.99
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pione...oductDetail.do

Speakers

Infinity 4012i (4").....79.99
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Infin...oductDetail.do

MTX TDX6502......99.99
(for the rear speakers - assuming 6.5's will fit)
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/MTX-6...oductDetail.do

For installation at CC you'd be looking at this
Deck: Free
Speakers: 76.97
Wiring: 23.98
toyota pocket IF your oem unit is double din: 17.99

then tax and whatever warrenty you buy. So youd be around 448.91 or so for 4 speakers and a deck installed. If there are no locations in the rear then disregard 1/2 of the speaker install price and the 6.5s. Or if there are no wires going to rear locations youll have to add a 25dollar fee for running the wires back there.

BBs price should be similar.

ALWAYS keep an eye on CC and BBs open box stuff! There are VERY good deals to be had on them, however buy warrenty on the OB stuff, as all OB has the option of being replaced if you bring it back

NOw if you want to install it all yourself youll need
Pio dehp3700mp....150
met88008000 pocket....18 (only if you have a factory double din radio)
met801761.........16
metpr0180..........15
infinity 4"..........80
Kicker Comp 10 (x2)......80 buy one get one free at CC - very good sub!
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Kicke...oductDetail.do

box.....60
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Q-Log...oductDetail.do

amp....kicker KX250.2.....250
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Kicke...oductDetail.do

amp wiring kit from wally world (4ga only!!!!)....20

So 594 for a bangin system with 2 10s, about 300w rms to the subs, dual 10" sub box, 2 4" speakers, a deck and wiring harnesses, dash kit, and amp installation kit!! Btw you can change amps as fit, however the subs are a non issue - nothing i mean NOTHING outperforms those subs at only 80 bux for a PAIR!!! That price is almost within my accomidation directly from kicker!!
