A few stereo install problems
I got a new sony HU and some pioneer front speakers for my truck yesturday and tackled the install today. This was my first time every messing with any stereo system, but I was pretty excited about tearing everything apart to learn what is what.
Problem 1: The power wire is bad. I noticed with my stock unit that some of the speakers were going in and out, which is why I got new ones. Turns out, that by wiggling the power wire, the sounds are very touchy, I couldn't get it to give power to all four at once. Now that it is installed, It goes off and on when I hit bumps and stuff. I followed the wire waay up behind the airbag, and finally lost sight of it going behind the passenger air vent. Looks like a PITA to replace!
Problems 2: The stock speaker is sealed in with silicone and it seams like I am going to break the template pulling it off. Any tricks?
Problem 3: I have my ipod plugged into the aux front, but I would rather it be in the back. In the back I have four holes, red and white "bus in" and red/white "sub out". Neither of them are 3.5mm like the aux in. Is there an adapter for this?
Right now I am riding around with one door panel off, and my radio going of and on. Thanks for all the help in advance!

which power wire? The acc(red) wire or the 12volt(yellow) constant battery lead?? Just slowly pry off the speaker. It should be silicone. usually a none hardening type silicone but it shouldnt be too stuck on.

I would Run a new power wire, and then it will be fixed for good. As for the I-pod adaptor in the rear of the unit, i dont know if it would work unless the inputs are RCA. If so you can buy a cord that has the Red and White plugs on one end and the Headphone plug on the other, the only downside is that your ipod wont be charging while you use it. Otherwise, i would just keep it plugged in the front. As for the silicone i would maybe use some heat from a paint stripper to soften the stuff up, and then use a razor blade...take your time though because im sure the door pannel is expensive. Good luck!

The powere wire is not red or yellow, it's black. I would love to re-wire it, but I have no idea how to get up to the other end of it.
My ipod doesnt charge when it is hooked in the front either.

It turns out that the black one isnt the problem, that is just the antenna. I had a guy at work(self proclaimed stereo expert) look at it, and he told me the problem is that with the wiring set up, I am sending power to the stock amp, which is a no-no. He said that the amp gets its own power, and the new power going to it is shorting it out , which is why it is turning off and on.
As far as the speakers fading in and out, he said that it is also the stock amp that could have channels burning out, and messing everything up. It looks like I have to find someone to bypass the stock amp, and go right to the speakers. Right now, it is playing fine, with only the rear pass speaker not working. I wonder if I should just leave it alone, or get it fixed.
How did everyone else with an aftermarket deck not have the same problems if it is the stock amp screwing everything up?

your auxiliary in the the back is most likely two RCA type connectors. run to your local radio shack and pick up a cable with 2 RCA plugs on one end and a 3.5mm on the other end. its cheap, common, and easy to do. thats how i ran my ipod on my old HU

Well, thanks for all the advice.
Right now all of the speakers are working, so I don't think I am going to mess with it. I finished installing both front speakers this morning. I didn't do too bad for a electonic noob. I wired the first tweeter, and then left it unplugged when I realized that I didn't need it. They don't really sound any different than my stock ones, oh well. The only ouchy that I made was breaking the clip between the door handle and the long bar that it pulls, on BOTH DOORS. So right now I have to rig something up so I can open my doors from the inside.
