Error message on Toyota 6-disc changer...HELP

I have an error code (err1) on my 6-disc toyota changer in my '99 4runner. The manual says "disc dirty, eject disc and clean before placing back into changer". I do this and it still does not work. Any ideas?

you may have a dirty optic lense in the changer it's self. my tundra changer had the same problem. i had it cleaned and it worked fine after that.

I'm doing away with the multiple disk changer all together
For Christmas, I am getting a Pioneer CD player that plays MP3s. I can get around 200 songs per disk of MP3s. You can get a half-way decent player for under $200 nowadays. The player also comes XM ready...just gotta get around to subscribing to the service!

***EDIT*** I meant to say that I was doing away with the IDEA of a multiple disk changer...until I get the MP3 player, all I have as a single disk. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

I'm considering that, but I hate the look of the new decks. I wish they would just do a nice casual looking deck that doesn't scream "hey you, yea you...I'm cool... ". I might try getting it cleaned and see how long it lasts before I go for an aftermarket one. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it!

You could get one of those laser lens cleaner disks. It's a disk with small brushes on it that brush the lens as it spins. I have one made by Scotch but there are other ones I'm sure. Or you could just use one of those compressed air dusters and blast it a few times into the deck.

i watched the service tech do it. he exposed the lense and swabbed it with a q-tip soaked in alcohol. the work was in the r&r.

or you can go find an older single din 6 disk changer from eclipse on ebay. (dont think they make them anymore) Then go buy a current Eclipse deck and wola, 7 disks in your deck and BETTER sound quality.

(You dont have the JBL system do you?)
