dash speaker woes

i just picked up a new set of pioneer 4" speakers to replace the toasted factory ones in the dash of my '91 truck. however, once i pulled out the factory speakers, i found that the pioneers wouldn't bolt in! the tabs don't extend far enough to be able to fit the screws in their holes.

anybody else have this problem? any speakers that come with longer mounting tabs? recommendations?

I was just curious to know what size speaker you went with using the adapter.
I found some speaker spacers but don't know what the max size that would fit in our dash speaker area.

Thanks in advance.
