Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: What You Need to Know
#41
I think they will both win the war. the dual format players are going to get more and more popular. The prices will drop and no one will care what format the movie is in.

There won't be two winners since there's no ties in format wars and one will ultimatley win out and at this point I'm sticking to the Blu-ray side.
Dual players aren't the answer and one format will be in a decline eventually as the public gravitiates more toward one or the other.
I still think it'll come down to the bigger is better argument and Blu-ray discs hold a considerable amount more information than the HD DVDs do.

hd-dvd is pretty much in the ter now. blu-ray is here to stay. I would hold off a few more months till the actual good blu-ray players come out for $300 and below. the current $300 models wont be able to play newer movies.
also guys..
video game systems are going to be the same prices everywhere you go. those packages are a complete ripoff most of the time and are only at costco and shady electronics stores. Video game consoles are sold at MSRP and nothing else. Technically, a company cant require you to buy a package in order to buy one item. Im not sure how costco/ sams club get away with it

The movie companies will drive this. Sony is paying big $$ to get them to go BluRay. You know that's how it works! its all about who gets PAID the most!
Sony even owns their own Movie company, so they have a head start. Warner Bros just abandoned HD today to go BluRay.
good thing my Toshiba came cheap!! :-0

honestly i dunno blu-ray seems to be a passing fad: like laserdisc (almost mistyped that). while laserdisc looked a lot better than other things at the time, it had a higher price tag. and look what survived longer: the 'inferior' VHS. hell i still occasionally see VHS tapes on store shelves. so im waitin a few years or until i get a ps3

And Blu-Ray takes the win!!!!!
No one is making HD-DVD players and no one is making HD-DVDs.
Those of us with HD-DVDs can still play our old DVDs and the player will up-convert them into a HD signal so they will look better.
So for everyone who was holding back until the winner was chosen, Blu-Ray is the winner

The wife and I were holding out on buying until all this oh so familier VS match was over . Xmas was getting close and we decided to go ahead and get the ps3 for our media player and for our daughters games ( well mine too hehe ) anyway I cant believe what this thing can do . We can watch all of our Widows media files on our pc and my latop in the garage all via wireless .Music , pics vids all of it .. Xmas time we had company over and sat down to 1st xmas pics and old family trips and stuff ,,It was great ! We can surf the net and play online games without the need for extra cables 40ft long all over the house . Very nice . The BlueRay movies are simply amazing , It looks like you can grab the person or object right out of the screen of course 1080p helps. It really is an excellent price for the features you get Sony FTW !!
I bought the 80gig Motorstorm bundle $575.00 cdn. Awesome game

I will not buy either I did not even own a dvd player until 2 years ago when a friend bought be one it all sucks I own over 70 vhs movies and maybe only 15 dvds I stopped buying movies awhile ago I don't want to have to buy the same movie over and over in different formates. it is just a way for them to keep you spending more money on the same thing it is a crock of s__t same as this switch over to HD tvs.

walmart is phasing out ALL dvds and going to all blue ray.. Market tredns look like the dvd will be obsolete just like the vhs in the next 5 years... remember when that happend??? it doest take all that long for this stuff to happen.. witch kinda pisses me off as i just bought a new dvd recorder..

BR players will be under $300 in the next few months and the cost of HD DVD players was just so low as a last ditch effort to save the format. DVDs still have a shelf life and it isn't like regular DVDs don't upconvert fine for 90% of people out there;it's not the same as VHS since the disc technology is still the same just improved with BR. Regular DVDs will still be relavent to most of us and still useable unlike the diff between DVDs and VHS tapes which is huge and DVDs don't break down the more they are played.
Is Wal-mart going to carry only BR? I haven't heard this but i do know regular CDs are being phased out as I type.
Too big a deal is being made over nothing as BR will be phased into our lives and become a consumer friendly product(s).
It was just barely 10 years ago the cheapest DVD player on the market was $299 (my friend was one of the first buyers when they announced the price drop) and my mom paid almost $400 for her Sony 5 DVD changer in '99 so price changes happen fairly quickly once the public accepts the new technology.

I think I read it online just the other day W*Mart was going to only carry BR.
When the time comes I'll purchase a PS3, 90% for movies, the other 5% for gaming and 5% for lazy internet surfing. I'll play my 360 till it catches on fire, can't beat XBOX live for online gaming.
