They have dual format players out now I believe. Not sure how expensive they are but you can't really go wrong with one of those I guess. For me, I'll stick with plane ol' DVDs. It is not worth the extra money for Blu-ray/HD-DVD in my opinion. The new discs do look great but hell, so do DVDs with an upconverting DVD player on a good flat screen television.

I dont know about this one, who would want to watch Hi-Def porn? Gross you would see every pimple, ingrown hair and herpasious sore. eewwwww!

I folded and bought HD DVD cause on the other side is regular DVD (on some movies) so we can still use them in the 4runners DVD player.

Quote: Anybody see any updates on this? I'm considering buying one or the other, but I think I'll do like the first article said and wait until the battle is won. I guess I just answered my own question, considering there are still both formats being pushed. Sorry to waste your time, although I could have not wasted it by not hitting the post button

PM me and get my number i can get you a deal on them as i sell them (read i own a Home Theater company).

In my opinion i would wait. Or Get a game console like a PS3 that way if say blu- ray doesnt make it who care you are still playing games.

X2 on a good up converting player we usually go with a Denon 1740.

The dual format players are getting better but some of the players cant perform as well as the single format ones. Special features and other items cant be rendered right in the dual format players. They are getting better though.

Just get a PS3. I've got one, and the blu ray player works great!!!

I still think the betamax's are cool though. They're just like a VHS, but little.

For those who are afraid of being wrong... you can now go with the dual format players

LG and samsung should both have one...

Last I heard they were well over 1k

Seems like this may go the way DVD recordable media went... no real winner, companys just started making drives that can write/read every format. It just sucks when you need to pick up some blank DVD's for a friend and there are like 7 different types

BTW, PS3's have been under $1000 for a very long time. I bought mine in the peak of all the hype last December when they 1st came out for $950, and that's with 2 controllers, the 60GB with WiFi, and with 5, or 6 games($60+ a piece). They only were selling them in that bundle, but you could get the 20 GB model for $800, I believe.

Go to a Game Stop. You can get PS3's and Xbox 360's for some good prices.
We got my brother a PS2 ,Guitar hero 2, Guitar hero 2 80's, a guitar controller, Hit man 2, and a Supermoto game for $200 for his birthday the other day.

They usually have some killer deals on stuff.

I still say Blu-ray is what we all will be using in the next few years;HDDVD is the new Betamax.

Hmmm. seems it may be best to get them both.
I just picked up the Toshiba A30 with plays HD-DVD at a true 24/p. My sony 46" LCD will handle the 24/p, so its a good combination. If its true that Sony's Blue-Ray is coming out strong with thier movies, then I'll pick up a PS3. Last I heard there were lots and lots of game makers that were originally backing the PS3 games, then pulled out. Hence, the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3. Now, I know the Xbox 360 has plenty of problems, but one thing is for sure, they have so many more games than PS3. Anyhow, my 02 cents

PS3 sales are matching the Xbox's first year sales and it stumbled a bit right off the bat but PS3 sales are picking up and they did just drop their prices to $400 for the 40gb version.

When the next Grand Theft comes out followed by Gran TurismoHD sales will increase quite a bit for Sony. Sony has the more powerful machine and it will really show over the next two years.

the $399 model DOES NOT have the capabilities to play the older PS2 games.

Yeah, I asked about that too. If you want to play the older PS2 games, you have to cough up $500 bucks for the $80GB model. That move may save the PS3. I agree its better than the Xbox, but its lacks games to play.

Who really plays their older games except for maybe a couple but for me my PS2 (original run) works fine and I'm still another price drop from a PS3.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't the X-box 360 come out like 6 months before the PS3. If so, that would explain the larger number of games, and somewhat better sales. Also, keep in mind that the PS2 is not dead yet. They are still making good games for it, so overall sales for Sony with the PS2 and PS3 have got to be better than The X-Box 360, and whatever else x-box has out right now.

I've noticed over the last few months Blu-Ray has been getting the bigger ad spaces in all the Sunday fliers in the paper and Blockbuster is exclusively Blu-ray and not to mention Disney is exclusive and rumors are the Star Wars trilogies will be Blu-ray and Spielberg may be included in the Blu-ray club.

Even with HD DVD players dropping in price my friend who works at Best Buy said Blu-ray is outselling them by a small margin.

Just saw that the PS2 still is the best selling game console out with 12 mil in sales in '07 and in '08 will have 160 titles available. Pretty impressive for a system that's pretty much obsolete but it does have 120 million units out there so game support is still relavent.

So recently I picked up a Sony Bravia 42" LCD with true 1080p/24.
My Toshiba A30 puts out 1080p/24, but I've heard from many many people that the Blue Ray has much better quality movies.

So, now I'm thinking about the PS3 console. I've read that the PS3 consoles in Movie (Automatic mode) put out 1080p/24.

Anybody heard any truth to this?
